#SuicidePrevention #MentalHealthAwareness #CulturalCompetencyinHealthcare September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month and I'm highlighting facts that we should all be aware of. According to the Pew Center, the suicide rate among Black adolescents is increasing faster than other racial and ethnic groups. From 2007 to 2020, the suicide rate rose 144% among 10- to 17-year-olds who are Black. Black adolescents are significantly less likely than their peers in other demographic groups to receive mental health care. If you or anyone you know needs help, please call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline: 1-800-273-TALK (8255)

🧠 July is National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month 🧠 At Advance Peace, we recognize that mental health is a crucial component in our fight to end retaliatory and cyclical gun violence in urban communities across America. For #BIPOC communities, mental health challenges often intersect with systemic issues, making our work even more critical. #Gunviolence is not just a #criminaljustice issue; it's a public health crisis that profoundly affects the mental well-being of those involved and their communities. By addressing #mentalhealth, we can break down the cycles of violence and provide support where it's needed most. This month, we emphasize the importance of protecting BIPOC mental health. We're committed to breaking down the stigma around mental health in the communities we serve and ensuring that everyone has access to the resources and support they need. May is Mental Health💚Awareness Month, and we must acknowledge the unique challenges we face in our fast-paced, always-on professions. Social Media Managers and Digital Media professionals are often expected to create, engage, and deliver results. But amidst the hustle, prioritizing our mental well-being is not just important—it’s crucial. 📃Here are a few strategies to help balance the demands of our roles while maintaining mental health: ➡️ Set Boundaries: Create clear work-life boundaries. Designate specific times for checking emails and social media notifications to prevent burnout. ➡️Take Breaks: Schedule regular breaks throughout your day. A short walk, a few minutes of meditation, or simply stepping away from the screen can make a big difference. ➡️Practice Mindfulness: Incorporate mindfulness techniques into your routine. Apps like Headspace or Calm can offer quick, guided sessions to help you stay grounded. ➡️Prioritize Tasks: Use productivity tools to organize and prioritize tasks. Breaking down projects into manageable chunks can reduce overwhelm and increase efficiency. ➡️Seek Support: Don’t hesitate to reach out to colleagues or mental health professionals if you’re feeling overwhelmed. Sometimes, a supportive conversation can provide new perspectives and relief. ➡️Self-Care: Dedicate time to activities that rejuvenate you. Today, on World Suicide Prevention Day, I reflect on the importance of open conversations about mental health and the need to combat stigma. This day holds personal significance, reminding me of the impact of mental illness and the necessity of safe spaces for seeking help. As a Digital Crisis Supporter at Lifeline and a member of the Suicide Prevention Australia Lived Experience Panel, I am driven by advocacy for improved mental health policies. Sharing our stories is powerful in reducing isolation and fostering understanding. World Suicide Prevention Day symbolises hope, resilience, and progress in mental health awareness. It's a time to remember, support, and celebrate advancements towards a world that embraces and supports mental well-being. Let's continue to be voices for change and always remember, there is hope in reaching out, especially in the darkest moments. #WorldSuicidePreventionDay #MentalHealthAdvocacy #EndTheStigma #WSPD2024 #SuicidePrevention #MentalHealth #WorldSuicidePreventionDay2024

Lack of access to mental health care continues to be one of the most overlooked crises in our country. As we work to reimagine what it means to prioritize mental health, we look to states like Minnesota, where a landmark piece of legislation, Travis’ Law, was passed. This law requires 911 dispatchers to deflect mental health crisis calls directly to trained teams who specialize in these kinds of calls. In our latest episode of Build the Change, we talk to advocates on the ground about the work still to be done. We’ll hear from families and organizations in Minnesota – and around the country – who are teaming up to keep their communities safe and supported during mental health crises. https://lnkd.in/euRKgufK
