🚀 Reflecting on stackconf 2024 🚀 Just wrapped up an incredible few days at stackconf, and I'm thrilled not only to have attended but also to have been a part of the lineup of speakers. The conference was a deep dive into the latest in tech, and I’m eager to share some key takeaways from the sessions I attended: 1. Disaster Recovery and System Migration: Learned that automating the migration of bare metal Linux machines is feasible with tools like ReaR, though a robust backup system remains crucial. 2. Generative AI: The buzz around Generative AI is real! AWS showcased how their solution engineers assist companies in finding and implementing AI use cases effectively. A critical takeaway was the challenge of prompt injecting, highlighting the potential for misuse and the need for safeguards. 3. Product-Market Fit: It's a marathon, not a sprint. Many companies develop products over years and often only find their market fit long after initial release. Patience and perseverance are key. 4. Observability: While many of us assume full observability stacks (logs, traces, metrics) are common, the reality is quite the opposite. It’s a reminder of the gap between best practices and common practices. 5. Cloud Services Insights: As cloud services continue to grow rapidly, I shared insights on building one. 6. Internal Developer Platforms: Companies like RTL are setting benchmarks by building internal platforms that empower developers with cloud accounts and standard services like Kubernetes, Vault, Grafana and Prometheus enhancing productivity and innovation. 7. Handling Flaky Tests: An interesting approach to minimizing disruptions caused by flaky tests is quarantining them or rerunning tests until they pass, ensuring reliability in continuous integration processes. Stackconf was not just a conference; it was a collective brainstorming arena where ideas met potential. Thanks to all the organizers and attendees for such a productive environment. This week was all about Kubernetes, Platforms AI/ML workloads. Thanks #KubeCon Paris for amazing week! Project pavilion was a blast! I would say best area to meet your fellow OSS enthusiasts, create new connections or refresh old ones! Will be honest, preparing for talks was very time consuming and at some point you think - why are you doing this? But once presentation is over and you hear people questions, ideas, conversations following after - it was worth it! First and foremost biggest thanks to CAST AI for all the support & enablement for me to be part of this amazing community! Special thanks to Dr. Stefan Schimanski, Sebastian Scheele, Marvin Beckers - We spend so much time preparing for the talks, I feel we work together :) But maybe it’s what OSS is all about. And so many more of you who had conversation, discussion, disagreement! All options helps us to improve! I will be honest, for last few years when talking to people about KCP.io - It was a challenge. Adoption of Kubernetes & container was not yet there. And people just didn’t seen the challenges we did (Insert old man yelling at the cloud meme). But this KubeCon - mind-shifted and, I think, as community we reached the threshold where people get this :) Want to see what next year will bring us!
