In this new episode of "Hold Your Fire!", I discuss w/ Richard Atwood Turkey's stance in conflicts of the East Med, Black Sea, and the South Caucasus, as well as Turkey's own disputes with its immediate neighbors. The phrase "strong in the field, strong at the table" (Sahada ve masada güçlü) is used in Ankara to highlight a dual approach: viable military options alongside constructive diplomatic engagement. Ankara's goal to strengthen its influence in its neighborhood has been consistent, but its framing, modalities, and tactics have changed significantly in the last 20-plus years with reality checks and recalibrations due to the region’s volatility, shifting global dynamics, economic imperatives, domestic politics, as well as miscalculations and ideological aspirations... Nowadays, Ankara appears to put its own strategic plans on the drawing board first, then looks for fitting partners based on shared interests, complementary resources, and respective leverage. Due to this complex web of situational cooperation, questions like “Does Turkey align with the West?” or “Is Turkey counterbalancing Iran and Russia?” seem increasingly one-dimensional. https://t.co/SqtBF5ABCF International Crisis Group You can also listen on Spotify or Apple Podcasts

A strong advocate for Emotional Intelligence and a great mind. This is Ambassador John Ulanga and he naturally articulates why EI has been foundational to being an effective Diplomat. Diplomats work in different cultures, that require agility and adaptability to blend in with communities they found themselves in. Negotiating requires a deep understanding of self and others and EI gives one the tools or the skill. And to crown it, practicing humility allows you to listen first, learn first and understand before giving 'your wisdom'. Coming from intellectual humility. And so many more lessons from this Podcast. #EISimplified #EmotionalIntelligence #MouldACulture
