Thanks to Evan Popalis and the WHTM-ABC27 crew for coming out to our Denver PreP media event. It’s exciting to share the story of our new sorting facility and how it’s helping to divert plastic waste from landfills and feeding Ironton with purer polypropylene bales.

It’s alarming that we dump 2,000 truckloads of plastic into the ocean each day. That’s why, at Quench, we strive to reduce plastic waste with bottleless water coolers. Spread awareness and share this article to encourage reducing plastic use https://ow.ly/ILHL50S8BHr.

Let’s make a better version of this
Do you know what’s the correct way to cut a plastic packet? Let’s see Tuli show us the trick! Little bits of plastic may cause more harm to the environment when disposed of incorrectly. Do not mix plastic bits into bio-degradable waste. #EarthDay

In Defra's Resource and Waste newsletter, released on 13 December, they provided detail on their decision to cancel plans for mandatory cup take back. Originally, the scheme aimed to ensure businesses over a certain size provided separate waste collection of single-use cups from consumers, such as fibre-based composite coffee cups, in turn ensuring they are sent directly for recycling. Find out more about why the scheme was scrapped 👉https://lnkd.in/eEe5iBSS

Data in the #CompostingConsortium’s new report, Don’t Spoil the Soil, confirms the pervasiveness of conventional plastic contamination in composting streams and the need to further mitigate this challenge, both upstream and downstream. Conventional plastic contamination is the number one concern preventing more composters from accepting post-consumer food waste streams with certified compostable packaging. 1 shard of glass = 100% contamination for an organics recycling facility. Imagine trying to find a needle in a "haystack", but your haystack is a 20x40ft pile of everyone's week old leftovers... It's not just about volume, it's about safety. The pervasive assumption that "they'll just sort it out when it gets there" is one of the biggest hurdles we face. No matter the material (plastics, metal, glass, produce stickers, pet waste, concrete, treated wood, etc.) Contamination is and will likely always be a challenge for any recycler until we come together across regions and industry on clear standards for product manufacturing, acceptable materials, and contamination policies. Education must be an all parties involved initiative, from the producers, to the consumers, to the haulers, to the processors and anyone who handles or engages with the materials in between. The viability of a true circular economy depends on large-scale collaboration and communication across industries and competitors. What are your thoughts on creating a contamination-free recycling process? How can we better collaborate to make this a reality? #CompostConsortium #Recycling #Sustainability #CircularEconomy #ResourceManagement #ZeroWaste
