It’s not just about the gobsmacking $32 million sale of *one* pair of Judy Garland’s ruby slippers at auction. It’s about a 20-year mystery of two capers starting in Grand Rapids, a harking back to the 1911 theft of the Mona Lisa, and a meditation on where the memorabilia market can go from here. Jeff Koons elevated banal objects into art; the 'Rabbit' (created in 1986) is the most expensive artwork ever sold by a living artist (€81.4 million). THE WORLDS RICHEST VANDAL As Banksy turns fifty and his auction results continue to soften the question on everyone’s lips is what can we expect next from the elusive artist/activist. Ubiquitous and anonymous in equal measure his market has become ever more reliant on stunts, from the headline stealing ‘Love is in the bin’ [Shredded Girl With Balloon] to the carefully choreographed yet crime-less theatre of Peckham’s ‘Stop The Drones’ road sign fiasco. Is now the time to re-evaluate the artists true legacy. Not the cleverly constructed and vigorously [Pest Control] policed empire of print and canvas multiples that have made him rich. But to the street works, the lost leaders left vulnerable to the rigours of overzealous council workers and envious over-taggers. But there remain a small but notable number of surviving works, salvaged from the wrecking ball and council connivance, that will confirm Banksy as the 21st Century’s most important artist. I invite you to consider the notion of an entirely new and untapped market, one that falls firmly outside the jurastiction of Pest Control an exciting opportunity to forge a new frontier, the rewards of which are boundless. Will Banksy support or condone such heresy, very likely not but by his own admission as stated in his most recent exhibition catalogue... “The canvases, the prints, all the “proper” art I’ve made doesn’t matter.. Only the streetwork will last.” Banksy - Cut & Run, 2023

A dramatic week requires a bit of a light-hearted reflection. And... Well could he fit on it or not? Still one of my favorite movie 'mysteries' and one should give the surveyors out there opportunity for sq ft occupation analysis and debate. Yes the so-called Titanic 'door' mystery is \one that will run and run (or is that float on?)! The latest news about the floating debris on to which our heroine clings comes from the one with absolute first-hand knowledge -- 'Rose' played by acclaimed actress Winslet. Read on: It's her take (which matters because she was there) on the door (that wasn't a door) scene at the end of 'Titanic'! A friend tells me that Mythbusters solved this for once and all and it was a 'no'. But I'm in the 'I think Jack could have made it' camp!' In other words - suspend belief! PS - A question for the surveyors out there given that the bit of 'debris' from the film sold for $718,750 at the Heritage Auctions' Treasures from Planet Hollywood auction in March 2024, what does it work out psf? And one for the jewellers: The Heart of the Ocean, the necklace and jewel that featured in 'Titanic', was fictional (but was based on a real bit of jewelry - the Tavernier Blue that reportedly disappeared in 1792! In the film the Heart of the Ocean is thrown into the ocean by the heroine - Rose (Kate Winslet). Reports are that it cost $9,500 to make but had it been real there certainly would have ben no throwing involved - value of a real one of that (56-carat, heart-shaped) blue diamond? Try $500 million or so. But apparently I can get a copy for UK £7.50 at Liverpool Maritime Museum. https://lnkd.in/d-7dFnhY #Titanic #film #surveying #sqft #space #retailspace #katewinslet #survivalatsea #whatif #jewelry #LiverpoolMaritimeMuseum

🦇 Batman is a cultural phenomenon - but beyond the dark and broody visuals, our imaginations of Gotham were crafted within a cacophony of sound. Anyway, here is Morgan Freeman* (allegedly) to tell you how it all works. Nolan's rendition of the Dark Knight is a masterclass in sonic branding, where every echo and whisper paints the dark, captivating world of our favorite vigilante. Imagine Gotham's nights, filled with the distinct growl of Batman's voice, the roaring engine of the Batmobile, and the eerie flapping of bats. These sounds don't just accompany Batman; they are his sonic signature, creating an aura of mystery and awe.
