It was field day for our summer interns! Here they had the opportunity to apply what they learned and performed an observation activity: variance study and DILO. The team had a blast and there is plenty of impactful learning to come! #Intern #Internship #OperationsManagement #Consultants

When we started our internship program from scratch, we asked a lot of questions. Our team had several learning opportunities. One thing we needed to sort through was the role we wanted the intern to fill. Some questions we asked included: > What department would benefit most from an intern? > What will daily tasks look like? > Do we have larger/longer-term projects they can also contribute to? We also had some operational questions, including: > Do we have someone on the team who has time to mentor an intern? > What are our end goals for the company and the intern? > What computer set-up and tools would they need to be successful? Caitlin Baker, our Design Services Coordinator, was tasked with developing and mentoring our first intern Megan Burns. She created a program featuring important but relatively low-risk projects that would give the intern meaningful, hands-on industry experience. Hear what Caitlin and Meg had to say about the process: https://lnkd.in/g5Yd9dV3

Summer internships are more than just work. They're about growth, friendship, and discovery. 🌟 I still remember my first internship vividly. The nerves. The excitement. The endless possibilities. This summer, our interns brought a fresh energy and curiosity to our team. They approached challenges with new perspectives. And enthusiasm that inspired us all. We forged strong bonds and celebrated each small victory together. Watching their growth was incredibly rewarding. Reminding us why we love what we do. To our amazing interns: Thank you! 🤝 You’ve made a lasting impact on our team. Your path in financial leadership has just begun. We can't wait to see where it takes you. Interns have huge value... ...if you let them! As an elder millennial, I only ever heard of interns fetching coffee and making copies whilst growing up, and that's the impression I think most people of similar age had of internships. Times have definitely changed and thank goodness for that! Yesterday we had our third annual Intern Showcase where several of our amazing interns spoke about the impactful projects they have been working on this summer. These are projects that will really benefit our business and I'm just loving what internships can be when you have a well-structured program that looks to benefit both interns AND the company. Its also important to me that they are given an opportunity to not only share their work, but to be able to build their presentation skills to a wide audience of senior leadership - this is why I and my virtual coffee hour co-chair launched this showcase three years ago. We wanted to make sure that our incredible interns felt supported and engaged with the rest of their fellow employees, making it a valuable summer for everyone. Who else has had a less-than-stellar internship experience when starting out? Do you see the same changes I see in today's internship programs?

If you are interning this summer, leaving a lasting impression and demonstrating your value during an internship can be effectively summarized with the acronym I.N.T.E.R.N: Initiative: Volunteer for tasks, and show willingness to learn. Network: Build relationships with colleagues and seek mentors. Timeliness: Be punctual, meet deadlines, and communicate effectively. Excellence: Deliver high-quality work, leverage unique skills, and seek feedback. Reflect: Regularly assess growth, set goals, and learn from experiences. Nurture: Maintain a positive attitude, dress appropriately, and stay connected post-internship.
