📦 New UK Packaging Compliance: What You Need to Know! 📦 The UK has recently updated its packaging compliance requirements, and it's essential for businesses to stay informed. As of October 2024, new regulations aim to reduce environmental impact and promote sustainability. Here's a quick rundown of what you need to know: ✅ **Recycling Targets**: The government has increased recycling targets for various materials. For instance, plastic packaging must now meet a 70% recycling rate by 2025. This means businesses need to ensure their packaging is easily recyclable and clearly labelled. ✅ **Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR)**: Companies are now more accountable for the lifecycle of their packaging. This includes the costs associated with waste management and recycling. It's crucial to review your packaging processes and work with suppliers who prioritise sustainability. ✅ **Plastic Packaging Tax**: A new tax has been introduced on plastic packaging that contains less than 30% recycled content. This is a push towards using more recycled materials in packaging production. Businesses should consider this when designing and sourcing packaging solutions. Staying compliant not only helps the environment but also enhances your brand's reputation. Let's embrace these changes and work towards a greener future together! 🌍 For more insights or to discuss how these changes impact your business, drop a comment below or get in touch with me at [email protected]. #recruitment #sustainability #packaging

European Parliament adopts new sustainable packaging measures to reduce packaging waste in the EU. The new rules established targets for reducing packaging by 5% by 2030, 10% by 2035 and 15% by 2040. E-commerce companies will be required to ensure that only up to half of their packaging is empty, reducing the amount of packaging used and waste generated. Adopting these sustainable packaging measures early is crucial, as overpackaging will incur taxes. Understanding these regulations and their implications, as well as the importance of ‘doing the right thing’, is essential for compliance from the company and its employees. 📢 INDUSTRY NEWS: The UK's Plastic Packaging Tax (#PPT) has revealed a mixed landscape in the fight against plastic waste. Recent figures show that 42% of plastic packaging did not meet the required 30% recycled content and therefore was taxed. On a brighter note, 46% of the plastic packaging did surpass this threshold, indicating a shift towards more sustainable practices ✅. Our CEO, Steve Gough acknowledges the progress but emphasises the need for continued efforts. With £268 million in tax receipts and over 4,600 businesses registered under the PPT, it's evident that the journey towards circularity 🔄 is underway but far from complete. This data serves as a call to action for businesses to innovate and for consumers to demand more environmentally friendly packaging solutions. In the world of sustainability, Paperization is a term that has been gaining traction – a clear signal of the transformative shift in the packaging industry. At its core, Paperization is about replacing traditional plastic materials with paper-based alternatives. This shift is being driven by rising consumer demand and increasingly stringent regulations designed to reduce plastic waste. Paper bags are a prime example, showcasing how we can innovate to create reusable, recyclable and cost-effective solutions that align with sustainability goals while meeting regulatory expectations. But this transformation isn’t just about changing materials – it’s about changing mindsets. As businesses and consumers, we have the power to reduce waste and prioritise eco-friendly choices, shaping a greener future for everyone. #Sustainability #Paperization #Innovation #EcoFriendly #PackagingSolutions

What is the EPR scheme in its present form? Bonkers.... top shelf sillyness! The scheme will essentially push many UK food and drink brands away from glass (which is UK made and 100% recyclable) to plastic packaging that is neither. It's shortsighted and will also give imported brands a leg up against localised UK producers as imports won't have the same tax. I'm all for increased recycling rates, and even taxation on packaging, but surely creating an unlevelled playing field for a localised 100% recyclable material is a step backwards? #sustainability #sustainablepackaging
