📢 To Share or Not to Share? - Let’s break the silence around child sexual abuse (#CSA). 🍃 Talking about child sexual abuse is not comfortable but absolutely necessary. 🗣 When disseminating the Global ‘#OurVoice’ Survivor Survey, we noticed that religious communities and other value-based organisations were unwilling or reluctant to share it. ❓ Ask yourself; who benefits from the silence? 🙌 Child sexual abuse can occur anywhere. It is time for organisations to step up, break the silence, and stand with victims and survivors! Read the blog post ‘To Share or Not to Share’ on our website 🔗https://lnkd.in/gZN6vBdb 🤝 The Global Our Voice Survivor Survey is supported by the #JusticeInitiative.

🔔 91% of survivors of childhood sexual violence report that the perpetrator was someone they already knew. 🔎 In 9 out of 10 cases the perpetrator was someone within their family or circle of trust. In nearly half of the cases, it was someone from their social circles, such as a relative, friend, family friend, or other close person. ✋ Despite common beliefs, child sexual abuse frequently occurs within familiar and trusted environments, which may complicate disclosure and healing and lead to feelings of isolation and betrayal for survivors. 🗣 While we cannot undo the harm that has been done, we can continue to listen to survivors, amplify their voices, and learn from their wisdom, preventing further crimes from happening. 📖 Learn more about the experiences of survivors of child sexual abuse in our latest report: ⤵️ 🔗 https://lnkd.in/dUk_HErS Supported by #JusticeInitiative

These week we want to share the voice of people with the power to create systemic change. The "National Strategy to Prevent and Respond to Child Sexual Abuse 2021–2030" in Australia is dedicated to the thousands of victims and survivors who shared their stories and experiences with the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse. It is also dedicated to all the victims and survivors of all forms of child sexual abuse who came before, during and after the Royal Commission. "We recognise your strength and courage. We recognise your pain and suffering. We recognise the people who helped you carry the burden of your experience. We recognise the tragedy of those who have lost their lives." While it sometimes feels that change is a long, long road and we are just one step of the way, it takes a coordinated approach and action from all parts of society to come together and change the direction. We hope that strategies such as this one making meaningful change to prevent child sexual abuse. https://bit.ly/4cdkQoc Danni and I discussed the sensitive topic of child sexual abuse. It was revealed that Danni herself was a victim of sexual violence during her childhood by a family member. She carried this painful secret for many, many, many years, just like countless other survivors tend to do. The average age for survivors to disclose their experiences is around 48, indicating a long period of silence and internal struggle before seeking help or sharing their stories. Danni now feels a deep sense of purpose in reaching out to others and letting them know that they are not alone in their experiences. Statistics show that one in five individuals may have experienced sexual violence as a child, highlighting the prevalence of this issue. Through her own journey, Danni aims to empower others and create a sense of solidarity among survivors.

Managing disclosure of child sexual abuse – new resource for professionals. From health to legal, social and community services, professionals are often the first people that a client or patient confides in. It's often difficult for survivors of institutional child sexual abuse to take the first step to talk about what they experienced. That's why it is so important to feel prepared and plan how you will respond if a client makes a disclosure. The National Redress Scheme has developed a trauma-informed, survivor-centred guide to support positive discussions with clients who chose to confide in a professional they trust. To access the new Discussion Guide visit https://lnkd.in/gxEhQmVa
