As we continue to raise awareness for MMIR, we feel it is important to support the organizations that are dedicated to the mission year round. The National Indigenous Women's Resource Center (NIWRC) offers "When a Loved One Goes Missing: A Quick Reference Guide for Families of Missing Indigenous Women: What to Do in the First 72 Hours." Per the NIWRC website: Due to the historic and often inadequate response from law enforcement, this guide was designed to assist families and advocacy organizations in responding when a Native woman goes missing. It provides information about immediate steps that can be taken in the first 72 hours after a person goes missing, especially where the law enforcement response is non-existent or non-responsive. Time is of the essence when someone you love goes missing. Do not delay – take these important steps to make every second count: 1. Contact local law enforcement. 2. Gather information and keep records/documents for use, as needed. 3. Ask a family/friend/advocate for support for yourself. 4. Enlist the help of your family, community, victim services, Tribal Coalitions (https://lnkd.in/g5H5fz65), or grassroots organizers. Per NIWRC, the information provided in this guide does not, and is not intended to, constitute legal advice. Readers of this toolkit should contact an attorney to obtain legal advice. Please refer to nwirc.org and fully read their information and guide details. www.niwrc.org DOWNLOAD: https://lnkd.in/gHT-3FtQ #nativeamericans #tribal #nativeamericanindian #chicagohealth #nativeroots #nativeamericanwisdom #firstnationspeople #firstpeople #bekindtoyourmind #firstnation #mmirchicago #mmiwchicago #MMIWActionNow #NoMoreStolenSisters #MMIW #MMIWR #MMIWRGoLocal

🔴 1 in 3 women has experienced physical or sexual violence during her lifetime. To fight #ViolenceAgainstWomen, we support a multidisciplinary approach that places human rights and the fight against #GenderBasedViolence at the heart of our health initiatives. 🌍 In 2022, only 14% of women lived in countries offering robust legal protection for their fundamental rights. Every project we fund is a call to rethink how health systems and societies recognize and respond to #GenderBasedViolence. Beyond fieldwork, these are long-term commitments to building environments where health, dignity, and justice prevail over discrimination and silence. This month, we commemorate the 20th anniversary of Republic Act 9262, also known as the Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children (VAWC) Act! This landmark law has been instrumental in safeguarding women's rights and providing a framework for prosecuting VAWC. ⚖️ We celebrate the progress, including the mechanisms for implementation like hotlines, shelters, and protection desks, primary prevention programs, advocacy campaigns, Increased help-seeking behavior by women, and standards and protocols for improving service delivery. But the work isn't done. Let us reflect on how to address gaps and challenges in policy and program levels and strengthen the implementation of the law. Let us continue working together for a #VAWfreePH! Currently, the Inter-Agency Council on Violence Against Women and their Children, together with the Philippine Commission on Women, is leading an assessment of the implementation of R.A. 9262. It examines the impact or extent by which the law has addressed violence against women after its enactment in 2004. Read more about the two-decade journey of the Anti-VAWC Act here: https://lnkd.in/gpj9ZAYz #RA9262 #AntiVAWCAct

🔍 Key insights from the UN Responsible Business and Human Rights Forum session on child labour and sexual exploitation: Discussions highlighted the importance of engaging the informal sector, understanding the specific impacts on children, and shifting the focus beyond state responsibility to include business accountability. Here’s what we learned: 1️⃣ Engage the Informal Sector: Effective remedies require the inclusion of small businesses and lower tiers of supply chains to address hidden risks. 2️⃣ Prioritise Children’s Needs: Remedies must include education, healthcare, and legal support—not just financial compensation. 3️⃣ Shift Responsibility Beyond States: Businesses must step up to understand their duty to protect children, creating proactive prevention measures and collaborating on effective solutions. ECPAT International, as part of the #DowntoZeroAlliance, works across sectors to create safer environments for children. Stay tuned for our upcoming report on the role of the informal sector in the prevention and response to the sexual exploitation of children! #BizHumanRights #HumanRights #ChildSexualExploitation #ResponsibleBusiness
