"You're an engineer getting into sales? And in Chennai of all places?" My father's words stung. He added, with a mix of concern and love, "Anyways, if you cannot make it, come back home. We'll figure out something here." Engineering wasn't for me. I quit 'engineering' job after just three days. No notice, no plan. I only knew what I didn't want. Living in Chennai was an enormous challenge. Different food. Hot and humid Climate. Language.. I learned -"Tamil teriyade.". And I was supposed to build relationships. I had to work on thinking and speaking in English – a skill I hadn't mastered. Slowly fell in love with the city and people. Years passed. As I waved goodbye to my parents at the Chennai airport, sending them on a vacation abroad, my father's eyes shone with pride. "I think you made the right choice," he said. Was it the best decision? I'm still not sure. But I learned something important: Every choice carries risk. 100% risk. I knew nothing about tech sales when I started. But Engineering didnt go waste. It helped develop aptitude to pick up the tech stuff fast. It wasn't my plan – I just went with the flow. The journey was wild: - Nearly losing my job at first - to win award after award for years - to fear layoffs during mergers & acquisitions I worked harder. It became almost an obsession and I surrendered to it. The high-pressure sales environment changed me deeply. From shy and introverted, I turned into passive aggressive. I didn't have much choice. I didn't want to return. The toughest battles? Worse than external, the internal ones, inside my own head. And when I thought I had made it, a new situation would break that illusion. But now I know this: We have the power to choose. We can plan all we want, but life will always surprise us. There's no such thing as failure. There is nothing called right decisions or wrong decisions. There are only Decisions, Goals, and the Work we put in to prove the decision. As we keep pushing, our goals evolve. We grow stronger – in mind and spirit. Mental muscles and attitude. We learn to focus on progress, not setbacks. Setbacks keep us humble. This career taught me about life, not just sales. It's more than: - Building funnels - Raising targets - Hitting numbers - Winning awards - Exotic business trips & a lifestyle When you make a choice, the road to goals will never be a straight line. We have to work hard to make it the right one. The journey will change you in ways you never expected. One can only evaluate decisions in retrospect, either with regret or pride. Looking back, I can say this with certainty: Zero Regrets and heart full of Gratitude for what this profession has blessed me with. And now I know one more language - Tamizh.
