🤔 In your opinion, what defines a social media platform? How is it different than any other type of app? Are there different sub-sets of social platforms? "Less Social Media, More Snapchat" is what the billboard said that sparked this question (and made me do a double-take driving out to the mountains this weekend). As I guess I haven't landed on a stance yet, I'm curious of some more opinions and thoughts. I've been using Snapchat since its launch and have always thought of it as a social media platform-- a way to connect with people who I don't see regularly through mixed media and post updates like "stories." But is it? And if not, what about YouTube? Or BeReal? And in a world where things like TikTok filters and AI Avatars can alter one's presentation, how much are people actually leaning into/craving "real" content vs. choosing the filters? Our team has been on top of all the latest social media updates, and we’re going to break it all down for you! 📱 On Instagram you are now able to add up to 20 audio tracks to your reel. That's a lot of music! 🎶 Instagram also shared tips for creators that include grabbing attention in the first 3 seconds, 30-60 second reels perform much better, be humorous, and use trending hashtags, among others. YouTube added new creative options for Shorts that include auto layout, text-to-speech, stickers, and auto-editable captions. Another update YouTube is testing is Community Spaces, which is to drive fan engagement. This basically provides a dedicated space for fans to view text updates from the creator while also sharing their own posts. X is looking to further integrate AI and reports it is having a major increase in users. noplace (fka nospace) has officially launched, targeting Gen Z and giving us millennials the MySpace nostalgia we all needed.
