Attitudes that minimise, excuse, justify, or blame those experiencing domestic and family violence contribute to a culture of silence and inaction. These are not justifications, but harmful excuses that perpetuate violence and diminish its impact. It's crucial to recognise and challenge these harmful beliefs to support those affected and create a safer environment for everyone. Our workshops equip you with the skills to challenge these attitudes and work towards a more informed and supportive community. Absolutely agree with this video! Silence is NOT an option. When we witness harassment, domestic violence, or child abuse, staying silent allows these injustices to continue. Laws are only as effective as our willingness to enforce them by standing up and speaking out. This isn't a burden for just victims; it requires collective action as we all have a responsibility in creating safer workplaces and communities. Bystander intervention is crucial! 📌 Speak up | Be a voice for the voiceless | Challenge the bystander effect #safespaces #POSH #POCSO #bystanderintervention #breakthesilence #workplaceharassment #domesticviolence #childabuse #safeworkspaces #bethechange #speakup Would be interesting to hear your reactions and take on this. The Kent & Medway Violence Reduction Unit (VRU) is supporting #WhiteRibbonDay and #16Days with the #DontDoNothing” campaign, highlighting the importance of being an active bystander to help someone who may suffering domestic abuse or harassment. The VRU has launched this powerful video to highlight the importance of doing something that can support another. The campaign follows three key steps to make young people think about what they can do to help, whilst also not putting themselves in danger, STEP UP and check in on a friend (only if safe to do so) SAY SOMETHING and support a friend who may be suffering. TELL SOMEONE like a trusted adult who could help. Because ‘the behaviour you ignore, is the behaviour you accept’. Teacher resources, downloadable posters and videos are available on the www.dontdonothing.co.uk website, where young people can also seek further advice and support. 📢 Remember: It takes a survivor 7 times before they can successfully get help. 📌 October is observed as "Domestic Violence Awareness Month". DVAM was adopted as a way to unite advocates across the nation in their efforts to end domestic violence. Research on gender-based violence during the COVID-19 pandemic is being published, and the results are heartbreaking. Gender-based violence was a pandemic within a pandemic (a double pandemic). Check out our Newsletter and Articles on Domestic Violence and Intimate Partner Violence Awareness, signs to spot and strategies to overcome DV and IPV! Victim-blaming is a harmful attitude that shifts focus from the perpetrators of violence and abuse to the victims themselves, often invalidating their experiences. As Dr. Jackson Katz highlights in his book The Macho Paradox: Why Some Men Hurt Women and How All Men Can Help (2006), this mindset undermines the reality of violence and places undue burden on those who are already suffering. Understanding this dynamic is crucial for fostering a more supportive and justice-oriented approach to addressing violence. Let’s work towards creating a culture that holds perpetrators accountable and supports survivors with empathy and respect. #EndVictimBlaming #SupportSurvivors #GenderViolence #Accountability #Empathy #HealthyRelationships #SexualViolenceAwareness #TraumaInformedCare #Respect #TherapySupport #LifeCollectiveCounselling
