What Makes a Tough Guy? What a beautiful speech by Joe Alberici on the importance of helping others. As a father of a child with autism, this really resonates with me. Another great of example of using sport settings to teach children life lessons. Great work, Coach Alberici 👏 👏👏
🔥 Great lesson... for life !!
👍 be a tough guy and lead with empathy … empathetic leadership is more than just a management style—it's about truly connecting with your team and delivering exceptional performance.
Tough 'guys' challenge bad behaviour, help others, never leave someone behind, do not make the cheap jibes, are confident to do the right thing and are usually quite quiet. Weak 'guys' are the perpetrators of bad behaviour, only help themselves, will run and leave people whenever the going gets hard, laugh at others expense to make themselves feel better and ultimately have no confidence in who they are but make a big show of what they are doing. Easy to spot. Great video but do we not need to start collating these sort of things as must watch for younger people? or do we have a duty as adults to share to younger people?
When I was a PE teacher I made a point of mentoring the top athletes and getting them to mentor those not at their level, to become their coach in the lessons, to help them feel condfident in the lessons and on the playground. I love this video, thank you for sharing
Things like this man — thank you Coach — so grateful to be a part of the long gray line United States Military Academy at West Point Professor Adam Nicholls God bless — be inclusive — spread love — that’s tough!
Miss getting pep talks like this from Coach A at 6am pickup hoops at West Point!
Well observed Glen getting people engaged takes real observation skills and techniques, you need to adapt these for your audience, His message is so powerful but he’s used to lecturing army personnel who have to pay attention and look interested. Your so right about getting the group to stand in a circle, there is too much talking down at his audience. He needs to get them involved and own the topic/subject.
Great leadership and mentoring example.

4wA different and complementary perspective for the coach to take his wise words further. Look at the embodiment of the audience. Many heads are down, low or no eye contact. Despite the ask/instruction for eye contact at the beginning. Have them stand in a connected circle with him in the middle. And/or have them in a circle looking at each other so they can embody what he is instructing them to do. Some of the player's body frames are inward and downward. Being inclusive and open to others and 'difference' requires a body of openness and welcome. Males can often find eye contact, open frames and non-judgmental welcoming challenging - so as you talk to them get them to embody what they find difficult to do. Then you help them demonstrate being tough and inclusive at the same time.
