🎨 Exploring Provenance and Restitution with Lucian Simmons 🎨 I am having the privilege of attending Ars Auro Prior – Restitution of Lost and Stolen Art Works today, featuring a keynote by Lucian Simmons from The Metropolitan Museum of Art. His talk, “Provenance and Cultural Patrimony: A Museum Perspective,” was nothing short of eye-opening. This discussion reveals how the past informs today’s ethical decisions in the art world and beyond. A huge thanks to the University of Gdańsk for organising such a thought-provoking seminar! What are your thoughts on the role of museums in addressing historical injustices? #Restitution #Provenance #CulturalHeritage #MuseumEthics #TransitionalJustice

“Accessing the Museum.” The call for papers for the Fall 2025 issue of Exhibition—the journal of exhibition theory and practice for museum professionals published by the American Alliance of Museums—is now open. For this issue, we reflect on 35 years since the American Disabilities Act was signed into law and seek articles that examine the many facets of accessible exhibition-making such as: the pervasiveness of ableism within museums and how to dismantle it, evolving standards for universal and/or inclusive design, the role of language or multisensory interpretive strategies in creating accessible environments, and more. Proposals are due January 6. Read about the theme “Accessing the Museum” and how to submit a proposal at: https://lnkd.in/e6EMbkQ9 #museums #exhibitions #exhibitiondesign #accessibility

This morning, I gave a #keynote #speech at the seminar "Ensuring quality services for all people and places" organized by the ESPON Programme in collaboration with the #Hungarian #Presidency of the #Council of the #European #Union. My talk, titled "Delivering #quality where it counts: #Value creation in #essential #services", focused on three topics: 🔅 #Value Creation. Public services should prioritize activities that generate the most value for citizens, focusing on outcomes rather than internal efficiency or cost containment. 🔅 The #governance of the essential service ecosystem from the government perspective. Effective governance requires managing the entire service cycle and aligning with citizens' expectations, emphasizing user values and external performance rather than organizational metrics. 🔅 #User-Centered #Design and #Cocreation: Understanding diverse user needs and fostering value through collaborative service design is essential to creating meaningful local government impact.
Full room, a unique venue -at the Ethnographic Museum of Budapest- and the most timely discussion: Can we ensure public services for all people and places? The ESPON seminar kicked off with a welcoming introduction by State Secretary Zoltán Polyánszky, and Wiktor Szydarowski, ESPON EGTC director followed by an intriguing and insightful keynote speech by professor Greta Nasi. What comes next? Parallel sessions where evidence from our recent projects will be presented and discussed.

#Legacy150: 'The Museum will not be Decolonised' conference schedule is now live https://lnkd.in/gyTEreAh Sumaya Kassim writes that “Museums are not neutral in their preservation of history. In fact, arguably, they are sites of forgetfulness and fantasy”. Her discussion was based on work she and colleagues did with Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, and it holds true of many museums throughout the UK. It is the “forgetfulness” of the objects’ lived history and the “fantasy” of these objects being out of time that is endemic in museum spaces. In this conference we discuss objects held in non-ethnographic museums and explore what they mean as representations of human experience, how we can accurately represent their lived experience using digital technologies and their weight as political and social signifiers in the contemporary world. The conference provides a space for interested parties to discuss the ways objects are presented and their histories represented.

MAATurities is a programme designed for adult and senior audiences, where contemporary themes are explored through artistic discourses featured in the museum's exhibition programme. By fostering open dialogue between different generations and life experiences, the theoretical (online) and theoretical-practical (in-person at the museum) sessions serve as forums for debating and questioning the world around us. We recognise that the languages of contemporary art can sometimes create barriers for the public, yet we also acknowledge that no other period in art history has required such active spectator participation. These encounters have evolved into more than just enriching teatime moments to discuss art; they have become opportunities for human connection, friendship, and a means to escape the challenges of ageing. https://lnkd.in/d-CPnZyF Programme and photo by Fabricia Valente.

The Maritime Museum of Barcelona While the Barcelona Maritime Museum houses a fascinating collection of maritime history, it fell short of my expectations in comparison to other museums such as the Hamburg Museum, Newport Museum or the Edinburgh Museum. The signage was confusing, and the arrangement of exhibits lacked coherence, detracting from the overall experience. These issues were significant enough for me to note them in the museum’s feedback notebook. #MaritimeMuseumBarcelona #MuseumExperience #HistoryInSight #SignageConfusion #ExhibitArrangement #VisitorFeedback #MuseumCritique #CulturalExpectations #NavigationalChallenges #HeritagePreservation #MuseumJourney #HistoricalInsights #MaritimeCollection #MuseumStandards #VisitorExperience #FeedbackMatters #ImprovementNeeded #CulturalComparison #barcelona #ExpectationVsReality #MuseumVisit @MaritimeMuseumBCN MuseumViews @CulturalHeritage @MuseumCritics @VisitorVoices @motto.panah
