Distinguishing Reduced Glutathione and S-Acetyl Glutathione, and Their Absorption Mechanisms Compared to Liposomal Glutathione. S-acetyl glutathione (S-A-GSH) is a unique form of glutathione, one of the most powerful antioxidants naturally produced in the body. It has an acetyl group (COCH3) attached to the sulfur atom of cysteine in the glutathione molecule. 1. Chemical Structure Analysis: Acetylation: S-acetyl glutathione (SAG) differs from reduced glutathione (GSH) by having an additional acetyl group. This acetyl group enhances its solubility in water and stability, rendering it less susceptible to environmental degradation. Consequently, SAG exhibits increased stability and solubility in the body, facilitating its absorption and utilization. Lipophilicity: SAG possesses higher lipophilicity compared to GSH, allowing it to more efficiently traverse cell membranes. This heightened lipophilicity enables SAG to be more readily absorbed by cells. 2. Absorption Mechanisms: Liposomal Glutathione: Liposomal glutathione encapsulates GSH within liposomes, enhancing its solubility and stability. This formulation allows for passive diffusion of glutathione through cell membranes, facilitating cellular uptake. S-Acetyl Glutathione: Due to its increased lipophilicity, SAG can potentially traverse cell membranes more rapidly compared to liposomal glutathione. Consequently, SAG may be absorbed by cells without reliance on liposomal carriers for enhanced absorption. An intersting peptide PTM workflow from Prof. Yan and others. Selenylation of cysteine in rice is very attractive for healthcare reserch but less investigated using MS-based method before. Here the authors using PEAKS 11 (full workflows, include de novo, DB search, SPIDER search and PTM search) to identified and localize 42 selenylation peptides. More importently, this PTM has highly hetrogeneous in the same site, so the PEAKS algorithm help the user to validate this heterogencity (The automated confident PTM/Mutation workflow in PEAKS can save a lot of time~ 😄 ).

Congratulations to the researchers of Synthesis of chiral 2-(N-Boc-azetidin-3-yl)-2-alkylpropanoic acids as novel GABA derivatives for their protocol which describes a simple access to chiral 2-(N-Boc-azetidin-3-yl)-2-alkylpropanoic acids as new GABA derivatives. Azetidine carboxylic acids serve as building blocks to produce various peptides, as they are important heterocyclic amino acids with many interesting biological activities. For example, one type inhibits the growth of E. coli and various seedlings. Based on their spectroscopic data, the structures of the 2-(N-Boc-azetidin-3-yl)-2-alkylpropanoic acids were established.
