Pro-Accel Employee Promoting Tip! If you wish to introduce a new position in your growing construction company, I highly suggest you do your homework and get very clear on what that new position means for your company today AND how it'll shape your future. I hear way too many stories of growing contractors who introduce a new position in their growing company by just telling one of their employees they're promoted without even knowing how to position that employee for success BOTH for the company and themselves. Know the full list of skills and responsibilities of what's needed for that role, hire or promote the person who has the most matching skills, THEN develop employees to quickly gain the skill gap they have (everyone has skill gaps). I suggest you also understand the roles/responsibilities of whom this person will be reporting to and try to offset some of the responsibilities to the newly appointed position. Why? Since you are growing, the person who is now this new positions supervisor will ALSO be taking on new responsibilities and skills needed to bring the company to the next level. They need to evolve and grow as well! It's not about one role, every role changes when companies grow. #proaccel #constructionoperations #constructionconsulting

The #wind industry relies heavily on word-of-mouth referrals for recruiting new talent, with many technicians entering the field through friends or family connections. Workers are drawn to the industry for its challenging and rewarding nature, good pay, teamwork, travel opportunities, and the ability to build skills on the job. While apprenticeships and mentorships are common paths into the field, formal education is not always required, appealing to younger generations avoiding student debt. Despite seasonal layoffs and health concerns about chemical exposure, technicians stay because they enjoy the work and take pride in their reputation and craftsmanship. To attract more talent, General Manager for Flex Wind, Desiree C. Grace, suggests that the industry formalize referrals, recruit from related industries, and emphasize its growth potential and long-term career opportunities.

Stop waiting, for the “right time” to consider changing roles (or sectors). At least three of my previous opportunities came at totally “the wrong time”. The first, I was in the UK. We were coming back to #NewZealand but I wasn't in a rush to get a new role. Conversations started as a family member sent me this role, and a number of calls later, I landed from a 28-hour flight and two hours later, had a final face to face interview. I’m pretty sure it wasn’t a “perfect” interview. I remember repeating myself and my brain being slow but clearly it was good enough. That role was amazing and allowed me to build a number of brands from scratch, and teams. They also then accommodated me when my maternity cover resigned, as a first time Mum with a very young baby, in a way that was WAY ahead of the times. In #Australia I had offers on the table, but I really wanted to work for a multinational who had a seven-stage interview process. I risk losing those other offers. I was totally over it at the end– but I nailed that assessment centre with a director. Apparently they wanted "grit" 🤣 I got to learn from the best – and work across #Sydney, and then #Canberra and then #Wellington so achieved my aim of being able to continue my career with the same employer, around moves required to support the family. When Transpower approached me over eight years ago, I was happy with my then employer. I was building an awesome team and had made the commitment to mentor some awesome up and coming talent. It was an emotional wrench, and I took some time to decide whether I could leave, and "if I should" leave. It wasn’t a decision taken lightly and it was made with some sadness. The opportunity to work for the client, in Energy, and with a workforce that I wasn’t familiar with (maybe wasn't comfortable with, to be accurate!) at the time, but have come to 💕 was just too compelling. Encouragement/pushing from a trusted mentor, that I would regret it, if I didn’t “just do it”, gave me the confidence to take the risk! I had very up front conversations with my new boss around what I needed as a Mum, and whilst the way I work may not be conventional, it works. I love the stimulating sector, the learning and the people. At Transpower New Zealand we are currently advertising 17 opportunities to join us here at the #nationalgrid with more to come! It maybe “easier” to look for jobs in the New Year, but some opportunities don’t come around often. Our engagement at Transpower is high, as is our average tenure (I never expected to be here eight years later!) so stop waiting for the “perfect” time. Just do it! ⚡ When Transpower is your mahi, Aotearoa is powered by you https://lnkd.in/gnbuBdhH #energyfuture #power Mana Wāhine | Power Women Manatū Wāhine Ministry for Women, New Zealand IEEE Women in Engineering
