Enhancing Urban Development:Comprehensive Development Plan for Nashik In December 2023, the Master of City Planning (MCP) batch of 2023-25 at IIT Kharagpur embarked on a significant journey towards urban development with the formulation of a Comprehensive Development Plan (CDP) for Nashik. Recognizing the pressing need for strategic urban planning, the team initiated a meticulous process aimed at revitalizing the city's infrastructure and addressing its evolving needs. Phase 1: Understanding the Landscape The initial phase involved an in-depth literature study of Nashik's area, alongside the digitization of essential maps and plans. To streamline the process, the team of 50 individuals was subdivided into 10 groups, each tasked with analyzing specific aspects crucial to the city's development. Phase 2: Data Collection and Analysis In January 2024, the team conducted field visits under experienced supervision, engaging in primary surveys to gather relevant data. Utilizing various tools such as questionnaires, citizen perception surveys, and reconnaissance surveys, invaluable insights were gleaned from interactions with both the public and officials of NMC & Nashik Smart City. This phase provided a comprehensive understanding of stakeholders' demands and identified areas ripe for improvement. Phase 3: Synthesis and Planning Following the data collection phase, the team focused on synthesizing and analyzing the collected data. Iterative discussions and reviews allowed for a thorough examination of Nashik's development aspects while addressing urgent management needs, including preparations for the Simhasta Kumbh Mela scheduled for 2027. Output and Conclusion The culmination of our efforts resulted in the formulation of two comprehensive volumes: the Status Report and the Proposal Report. These reports encapsulate extensive research, insightful discussions, and strategic recommendations aimed at fostering sustainable urban development in Nashik. It is our sincere hope that these efforts will serve as a guiding light for city officials and stakeholders, paving the way for a brighter, more resilient future for Nashik. **Conclusion of the MCP Program** With the successful completion of the second semester of the two-year MCP program under the esteemed guidance of our faculty Prof. Shreyas Bharule and Prof. Sumana Gupta as well as TAs, IIT Kharagpur takes pride in its role in nurturing future urban planners equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to tackle the complexities of modern urbanization. I am grateful for the grit and efforts of the entire team. Looking forward to more learnings in the upcoming thesis and projects. #Nashik #CDP #MCPIITKgp #UrbanPlanning #CityPlanning #IITKgp #DataAnalysis #Demography #LandUseLandCover #Transportation #UrbanDesign #Teamwork #HeritageConservation #Infrastructure #ReportWriting #Planner #KumbhMela
