Preventive and Advocacy Roles of Physiotherapy and what we can do as Physiotherapists to advocate and prevent lifestyle diseases. As Physiotherapists, we educate individuals on the importance of regular physical activity, proper posture, and healthy lifestyle choices. We prescribe customized exercise programs tailored to individual needs that can help prevent the development of lifestyle diseases by improving cardiovascular health, strength, and flexibility. We advocate for early identification of signs of lifestyle-related diseases and implement preventive measures to reduce the risk of progression. We advocate for community programs for public health initiatives that promote physical activity, healthy eating, and overall wellness in schools, workplaces, and communities. It's very important for workplace assessment and as a physiotherapist, we provide workplace wellness by implementing ergonomic assessments and exercise programs in the workplace. These assessments and exercises can reduce the risk of musculoskeletal disorders and other lifestyle diseases. Physiotherapists can work with healthcare policymakers to promote the integration of physical activity and wellness programs in public health strategies. Physiotherapists play a critical role in preventing and managing lifestyle diseases across all age groups. As we embrace July, it’s the perfect time to focus on something we often take for granted—our musculoskeletal health. Our bones, muscles, and joints play a crucial role in our daily lives, and maintaining their health is essential for our overall well-being. Firstly, let's talk about the symptoms of musculoskeletal disorders. Persistent pain, stiffness, swelling, and limited movement are signals from our body that shouldn't be ignored. These symptoms can indicate underlying issues that require attention. Understanding the diagnosis of musculoskeletal disorders is vital. If you notice any of these symptoms, it’s important to consult a healthcare professional for a proper evaluation. Early diagnosis can lead to effective treatment and prevent further complications. Building healthy habits is the cornerstone of musculoskeletal health. Daily habits such as maintaining a balanced diet rich in calcium and vitamin D, staying hydrated, getting regular sleep, and practicing good posture can significantly impact our musculoskeletal well-being. Prevention is always better than cure. When it comes to preventing musculoskeletal disorders, regular exercise is key. Avoid repetitive strain and make ergonomically sound choices in your daily activities to reduce the risk of these disorders. Engaging in specific exercises can also improve musculoskeletal health. Weight-bearing exercises like walking, running, and resistance training strengthen muscles and bones. Yoga and stretching enhance flexibility and joint strength, contributing to overall mobility. Knowing how to lift objects safely is another important aspect of musculoskeletal health. Keep a wide base of support, bend your knees—not your back—hold the object close to your body, and avoid twisting your torso while lifting. These simple steps can prevent injuries. On the flip side, it’s crucial to avoid certain habits that can be detrimental to your musculoskeletal system. Prolonged sitting or standing without breaks, poor posture, overexertion, and neglecting minor aches and pains can all lead to serious issues over time. Finally, daily exercise is a powerful tool for maintaining musculoskeletal health. It strengthens muscles, improves joint flexibility, enhances bone density, and boosts overall mobility. Incorporating regular physical activity into your routine can have long-lasting benefits for your body. Let’s commit to better musculoskeletal health. By integrating these practices into our daily lives, we can ensure our bodies stay strong and healthy. Your body will thank you!

This was a very unique wellness experience for me, and so glad I got to describe it, Jared Shapiro! >>> Brickell’s Casa Privée isn’t about massages and facials: This one-of-a-kind medical wellness center is far more scientific than that. Its enigmatic treatment rooms are lit up in brilliant color and dressed with inspiring, impressionistic portraits of movie stars (Marlon Brando, Marilyn Monroe, Montgomery Clift). They offer the gentle buzz of the multisensory theta chamber (a spinning table delivering vestibular motion, binaural beats, cranial-electrotherapy stimulation and eye movement desensitization reprogramming) and a heatless red light LED therapy that’s effective for muscle repair and enhancing athletic performance. Those are just two of the many therapeutic options available. The most popular modality is hyperbaric oxygen therapy, renowned for its healing power, where the patient breathes 100% oxygen in a pressurized chamber. (We normally only breathe 21% oxygen in our atmosphere.) “Everybody has a sense of needing to improve themselves,” says Dr. Bankole Johnson, the founder of Casa Privée, “and hyperbaric oxygen is one of the most powerful ways of doing that, because it reduces inflammation, improves wellness and increases longevity. Inflammation comes in many forms—wound injuries, metabolic disorders, cancers, neurological disorders, neuropsychiatric disorders—so almost everyone’s got something that hyperbaric oxygen can help them with.” https://lnkd.in/e9QTVaYt

Monday's Medical Minuet- minuet (min-yə-ˈwet) is a slow graceful dance...and also a brief post on Mondays by Dr. Hopkins containing information that can be shared with our patients, and impact their healthspan (the length of time that the person is healthy—not just alive). Exercise!! Noun, Verb, and Command. * The 'best' exercise is one that you are able to do regularly and pain-free. * Though walking may be the most cost-effective if you live in a neighborhood where that is safe. * Whereas we have been taught that every cigarette smoked decreases one's lifespan by ~ 4 min., every 1-hour spent exercising (from youth until ~ 40) increases one's lifespan by 7 hours!! * Frequency >> Intensity to improve your healthspan, not including weight loss, depression, and gastrointestinal function, which exercise has also been shown to improve. * The USPTF has information on exercise relevant to payors; I am already implementing them! Seek wellness!! ** Geriatrics? Walking has benefits. Standing and walking every hour, for even a few min., has a cumulative and positive effect on one's health, and even balancing / standing on one foot with your eyes closed and a hand on a countertop for firm support, impacts one's core and heart health, all while improving balance. Falls are a major cause of disability in our elderly. We can help decrease the incidence of falls through this. Seek wellness, Salud!!
