In the article "Philosophy is Crucial in the Age of AI" by Anthony Grayling and Brian Ball, the authors argue for the importance of Philosophy in understanding and navigating the complexities introduced by artificial intelligence. They highlight that as AI advances, it is imperative to engage in deep, philosophical inquiry to address ethical, moral, and existential questions that arise. Building on this argument, it is clear that Universities must focus on Interdisciplinary and Multidisciplinary curricula. In an age where AI can perform complex calculations and store vast amounts of information, human skills such as creativity and critical thinking become even more crucial. Interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary studies offer students new perspectives and a broader understanding of subjects, fostering these essential skills. An interdisciplinary approach helps students to be more observant and analytical, enhancing their critical thinking. This is particularly important when assessing the immense volume of information managed by AI, as critical thinking transforms raw data into meaningful knowledge. Creativity, on the other hand, is essential for devising innovative solutions and applications for this knowledge, especially in ways that benefit society and promote sustainability. Therefore, integrating interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary curricula is vital in preserving and enhancing creativity and critical thinking. This educational approach equips students to navigate and excel in a technology-driven world, ensuring that these uniquely human abilities remain at the forefront of progress and development. By embedding these skills into the curriculum, universities can prepare students to address the profound questions and challenges posed by AI, as emphasized by Grayling and Ball. #Interdisciplinary #HigherEducation #UGC #AI #CriticalThinking #ArtificialIntelligence https://lnkd.in/g6MndHQS

I recommend Ori as a Gr8 teacher and an expert in information theory!
I'm running a new graduate-level course on AI, ML and Information Theory this Fall Semester at Columbia University: "𝗗𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗱𝗲 𝗔𝗜: 𝗨𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗠𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗼𝗿𝘆" GR5293, Section 5. Prospective students in Statistics/Data Science/CS/EE and adjacent areas are most welcome to enroll in this exciting (in my biased view 🙂) course (tentative syllabus enclosed). Please feel free to reach out for any questions. #AI #MachineLearning #InformationTheory #ColumbiaUniversity

The The Royal Society is a Fellowship of many of the world's most eminent scientists and is the oldest scientific academy in continuous existence. In a new report they are deep-diving into Science in the age of AI, setting out to explore how AI is transforming the methods and nature of scientific research. The unprecedented speed and scale of progress with artificial intelligence (AI) in recent years suggest society may be living through an inflection point. With the growing availability of large datasets, new algorithmic techniques, and increased computing power, AI is becoming an established tool used by researchers across scientific fields who seek novel solutions to age-old problems. Now more than ever, we need to understand the extent of the transformative impact of AI on science and what scientific communities need to do to fully harness its benefits. Because AI research tools could also undermine trust, make scientific findings less reliable, and limit their usefulness in solving real world challenges . As such, the report explores how AI technologies, such as deep learning or large language models, are transforming the nature and methods of scientific inquiry. It also explores how notions of research integrity, research skills, and research ethics are inevitably changing, and what the implications are for the future of science and scientists. The report addresses the following questions: - How are AI-driven technologies transforming the methods and nature of scientific research? - What are the opportunities, limitations, and risks of these technologies for scientific research? - How can relevant stakeholders (governments, universities, industry, research funders, etc.) best support the development, adoption, and use of AI-driven technologies in scientific research? In answering these questions, the report integrates evidence from a range of sources, including research activities with more than 100 scientists. Highly recommended.
