How do you feel about streaming services increasing ad slots? Amazon Prime Video is set to up the ante with more advert slots by 2025, following in the footsteps of Netflix and Disney. This move was aimed at letting users avoid ads for a £2.99 boost in their subscription. Understandably, not everyone was thrilled with this 'opportunity'. The intention? To keep "investing in compelling content" while keeping the content free from ad breaks during shows – at least for now. Amazon’s UK ad-supported reach hits 19 million viewers, while over half aren’t tuning into paid-for TV. Growth wasn't quite meeting expectations, yet ad revenue remained robust. When they first introduced tiered services, it reminded me of my nostalgia for ad-free days. But investing in content is crucial – so maybe there's a silver lining? What do you think: opportunity for better content or just another way to get us to pay more? Drop your thoughts below! Want to discuss how these changes might affect your media strategy? According to eMarketer. Amazon will boast a massive audience for ad-supported Prime Video. Our new forecast for ad-supported Amazon Prime Video viewers anticipates that 130.4 million subscribers will stick with ads rather than pay an additional $3 a month for ad-free service. That figure represents 80.0% of the total Prime Video audience of 163.0 million in 2024 and will put Prime Video well ahead of Hulu as the largest ad-supported subscription OTT (sub OTT) video service in the US.

Interesting to see the growth of the ad tier options. Personally I find the lower price point more appealing and have the ad tier options for Netflix, Disney and Prime Video

As streamers begin to sell bundles packaging multiple services together, the landscape is beginning to look a lot like cable again. "Why is Hollywood (and Silicon Valley) going bundle-crazy anyway? Despite their flaws (like a discounted pie being divvied up two or three ways), bundles are the best method this side of consistently great content to reduce churn — or a subscriber canceling their membership. Netflix has the industry’s best churn rate, which makes it a very attractive service to bundle with." https://lnkd.in/gayZ_rDZ

It was inevitable…Amazon is folding #Freevee (Freedive, IMdb TV) into Prime Video, meaning all the #FAST content will now be available in Prime Video’s “Watch for Free” section. This move simplifies things for viewers and aligns with Amazon’s strategy to make Prime Video a one-stop destination for both free and paid content. It’s also a smart way to hook viewers with free FAST content and eventually upsell them to a premium Prime membership. With Prime Video already ranked as the #1 streaming service by Parks Associates, Amazon is set to capture both subscription and ad revenue more effectively. #StreamingWars #Amazon #PrimeVideo #FAST CC The Streaming Wars 43Twenty

Amazon is starting to streamlines user experience by integrating Freevee’s FAST content into Prime Video, Amazon creates a seamless, unified platform where viewers can find both free and premium content in one place. Two Questions; Will consumers enjoy this journey? Will this simplification make Prime Video more appealing and accessible, while also creating a clear path to introduce casual viewers to Prime’s paid offerings? Amazon’s strategy is a smart one: by hooking viewers with free, ad-supported content, they can entice users to explore the paid side of Prime Video, ultimately driving subscription growth BUT the question is IF will it happen in todays market?
