How you brand yourself and your inner energy affects your external presentation and who you attract in your life. I also talked inclusion where we women have been advocating for equal pay and equal rights. I believe that ALL women doing the same job and amount of effort must be paid EQUALLY....regardless of their country or value of exchange rate. All women's lives matter. In the spirit of inspiring inclusion on this International Women's Day (March 8), we reflect on the transformative journey of women in the mining industry. We honor these resilient daughters of history, who have paved the way for gender equality in every sector and have reshaped our perception of inclusion. Our history of inclusion begins a century ago when chemist Thelma Berggren’s groundbreaking analysis of drill cores revealed unprecedented gold content, laying the foundation for Boliden.  Trailblazers like Elvi Strand and Inga Wahlberg further highlight this journey. Elvi, who started as a hoist operator in Kristineberg in 1968, thanks to her unique talents in a challenging role. It wasn’t until 1978 that the ban against women working underground was abolished, so hers was a borderline case, since the hoist descended into the mine. Inga, at 40, embarked on her mining career as a hoist controller at the Långsele mine in 1970, further breaking down barriers for women in the industry. At the Kokkola smelter, Maija Casén exemplified dedication and adaptability navigating 40 years of technological advancements as secretary to 10 general managers before retiring in 2010. Anne-Maj Åkemalm is another pioneer whose shift from home help to a seasoned Aitik truck driver in 1977 reflects the spirit of challenging norms, and reshaping perceptions.  Fast forward to today when Boliden Aitik stands out with nearly 40% female machine operators and over half being truck drivers, showcasing a progressive and unusual gender representation in such a demanding field.  These women’s contributions have been invaluable in fostering a workplace culture that values inclusion and productivity. Last week, Katarina Muse, representing #WiGH and Hydrogen Europe, took part in the expert discussion on "Leveraging women’s skills in the energy sector," organized by FES Just Climate. She delved into the pressing issue of increasing female representation in the renewable energy sector, together with experts from the EU Commission and trade unions. Women are underrepresented in many technical and manual professions, as well as in project management and executive roles within the energy sector. This underrepresentation makes these fields virtually invisible to young female talent, depriving the sector of crucial skills needed for the energy transition. There are numerous European initiatives that foster stakeholder networks, share good practices, increase data transparency, and provide funding. These efforts enhance #visibility and mainstream effective practices. Additionally, social partner agreements between employers and trade unions, along with companies' growing commitment to #gender matters, are positive steps forward. However, these initiatives have had limited impact on labour market figures. How can WiGH help to attract more female employees to the energy and climate technology? Thanks to its mission of promoting more women on panels and its mentorship programm, it highlights brilliant women working in the sector.
