Supporting staff going through transitions is essential. Transitions aren’t just experienced by students. It’s common for educators to direct their attention towards their students; helping them adjust to an unfamiliar classroom, new timetables, and different teachers. Some students may be navigating additional change as they adjust to a new school, town or even country. Educators shouldn’t overlook your own experience when navigating transitions. It’s well-known that students should always come first in education, but a critical piece often overlooked is attending to the needs of the adults—teachers, staff, and administrators—who are essential in shaping the student experience. Ignoring the needs of these key players can undermine student success. I know because I learned the hard way as a novice leader. I didn’t see past what students needed, which created resistance from staff. After reflecting and collecting data, I quickly shifted my stance to prioritize my staff as long as it didn’t sacrifice students. Addressing adult needs is vital; you can do this effectively without compromising student outcomes. School Improvement 101: I often get asked what best practices were implemented when turning around a campus. One of the best practices after a tier 1 lesson is providing the reteaching for students still grasping the concepts using the model concept or explicitly teaching the lesson again. Using the EDI model not only for tier 1 but also as a tier 2 will dramatically increase student learning of the skills and concepts being taught. I recently saw this at a U-Haul store and gives an idea what explicit instruction looks like. This type of instruction, due to its structure, benefits all students but greatly supports the most most disadvantaged students with learning gaps. School improvement is not a one step solution but a system of small details that take root over time. #closingthegaps #academicexcellence #schoolimprovement #leadershipcoach #leadershipcoaching #explicitdirectinstruction #sisepuede

As a teacher, it’s incredibly stressful to watch districts across the country, from Washington to Texas and beyond, struggle to hold their schools together. For many, even the basic need for a clean and safe learning environment is becoming increasingly challenging. And forget about extracurricular activities. The very individuals who keep schools running—like our facility teams and bus drivers—are being cut more and more. Across the K-12 landscape, school leaders are collaborating and finding creative ways to consolidate resources just to maintain the bare essentials. It’s not easy, but it’s not impossible. For many districts—yes, even those smaller than yours— FMX has been the solution for turning challenges into opportunities. #lemons2lemondade https://lnkd.in/guuTUdkY
