I am starting a new AI focused side project to EXPLORE & LEARN the creative process and possibilities of AI FILM MAKING. This short teaser clip is part of the first trailer I am creating. A small analysis of the GPT performance I wanted to share with you. Below on the left is my image of the, what you might call, a nature morte (the fruit and skull are missing though, my bad). Our task is to generate a short animation based on the single image. I am using a publicly available free SaaS for this. Generated animation is on the right side. As you can see, the novel views do not deviate much from the input photo and many fine-grained details like text on the bottle are blurred out. It shouldn't come as a surprise though, because novel view generation task with 2D image as input is quite demanding on the amount and quality of input photos which describe a given item from different sides. I purposefully complicate the task by adding many items to the scene, as many of such models are trained to generate videos/scenes with a single object. There is nothing wrong with the model itself in this case. It was trained on random image-to-video pairs, and generalizes well enough to do everything possible with the unusual input. Many of such services are providing very rigorous requirements as to the type of the input required from the user, thus limiting his/her flexibility in the choice of the input. In this case I was told that the best choice of the photo would be an open environment picture. This is an example showing that even though GPTs are powerful and knowledgeable family of foundation models, in most of the REAL use cases they still should be tailor-tuned to the needs of the target users.
