Reducing the cost of equipping Army vehicles with new capabilities, while increasing interoperability and flexibility, can be accomplished via a Modular Open Systems Approach (MOSA), a technical and business strategy for designing an affordable and adaptable system. This system design approach integrates technical requirements with contracting mechanisms and legal considerations to support a more rapid evolution of capabilities and technologies throughout the product lifecycle.
