What are you doing all day, Scrum Master? 🤔 The preliminary results of the survey are in! Rumor is that a great Scrum Master supports one team at a time. If that is true, how do you spend your time? Moreover, what about stakeholders and the organization? Recently, I ran a survey addressing this question, and 229 Scrum Masters and Agile Coaches answered; see the PDF. Scrum Master is far more than a team coach. Often Scrum Masters tend to mainly focus on supporting the Scrum Team: ✅ Embracing empiricism ✅ Creating effective Sprint Goal ✅ Removing team impediments ✅ Getting the basics of the Scrum Framework in place. However, the Scrum Master should be active on all levels of the organisation Scrum Team, Scrum Teams and the wider organizaiton.

Some of the Scrum Master tips if it helps you. Velocity is the amount of work done in any Sprint and it is NOT the performance measure of the Team. Velocity measures the output I.e size of what was delivered and NOT the outcome I.e the value of what was delivered.

Question-to-the-Group So often I see Scrum Masters asking question-to-the-group like… According to the Scrum Guide, - whether ABC folks can attend Daily Scrum meetings? - whether Scrum Master should write Minutes of Meeting? - whether Scrum Master is allowed to sit down in a Daily Scrum? - whether Scrum Master is allowed to breathe while updating JIRA? All such questions are very crucial questions because they do create a huge impact on "Shipping Value to Market". Too sad The Guide missed out so many mission-critical aspects, and that is causing a big anxiety for Scrum Masters.   And because The Guide missed it, such business-critical questions are being discussed for last 20 years, and it will continue to be discussed till eternity.   It just shows that for so many Scrum Masters, reading and assimilating a 12page document is also a tough task. It also shows that for many Scrum Masters, what makes sense to the team & business is irrelevant. For them, what matters is what is written in The Guide. Because it is The Constitution. #bikeshedding
