Safety Monday: Wildfire Safety Alert With wildfire risk peaking in October and November, today brings high danger conditions to much of central and eastern Pennsylvania. Burn bans are in effect for Berks, Bucks, Chester, Lebanon, and York counties, and local municipalities may have additional restrictions. Help prevent wildfires by staying aware and taking precautions! Why is fall so dangerous for wildfires in PA? 🌿 Dry Fuel Source: During autumn, leaves pile up in fluffy layers on the forest floor, creating easily ignitable, dry fuel. 🌞 Seasonal Conditions: Low humidity, warm temperatures, and dry winds set the perfect stage for fire to spread quickly. 🔥 Ignition Sources: Unfortunately, 99% of wildfires in Pennsylvania are caused by people, often from burning debris, equipment use, campfires, and even power lines. Did You Know?: Most Pennsylvania wildfires start in someone’s backyard! A small spark or debris fire can quickly spread through dry grass or leaves, putting people, homes, and natural habitats at risk. Protect Your Property: 🏡 Clear the "Immediate Zone" (0-5 feet) around your home of all flammable materials. 🌲 Break up the landscape in the "Intermediate Zone" (5-30 feet)with fire-resistant plants or materials. 🌳 In the "Extended Zone" (30-100 feet), create spaces within forested areas to reduce fire spread. Stay Safe, Pennsylvania! #WildfireSafety #PAWildfires #SafetyFirst #ResourceEM

Today is National Wildfire Preparedness Day. As we enter into the summer season in Arizona, we historically have some of the driest months of the year before monsoon season enters it’s peak. AMR Central Arizona, Rural/Metro Corporation and GMR assets statewide stand ready to respond to these types of incidents. But, many times wildfires can be prevented! Don’t forget to do your part. 1. Check fire safety messages and drought condition indexes before entering Arizona’s natural habitat 2. If you do choose to venture out, build your campfire in an open location away from flammable materials 3. Douse your campfire until it’s cold 4. Keep all vehicles off fuels and dry grass 5. Secure lose chains or other objects when traveling 6. Regularly maintain your vehicle 7. Avoid all types of fire during windy conditions We can work together to prevent manmade fires. #WildfirePreventionMonth #SummerIsComing #FireSafetyBeginsWithYou #GMRFamily #SafetyFirst

#NationalFireNews: May 10, 2024. Five new large fires were reported in the past week. Currently, five large uncontained wildfires are burning in Florida, Mississippi, Arizona, and Oregon. Wildland firefighters and support personnel contained two large fires this week. Year-to-date 13,422 fires have burned 1,842,578 acres during this #FireYear2024. When it comes to protecting homes and communities from wildfires, firefighters cannot do it alone. Prepare your home for the fall A well-maintained landscape can do wonders to protect you and your home during a wildfire—and a poorly-maintained landscape can be a hidden danger. The bad news is that maintaining your property is a year-round task—but the good news is that you’re probably already investing the time and money to do this work, and there are great resources to help you understand how to target your time and money more productively, without spending more of either. CLICK HERE https://lnkd.in/grrFVjKN to read a great resource from DefensibleSpace.org which has very simple suggestions tailored to each of the four seasons, and the “fall” tab has specific recommendations about what to prune now, and how to best prepare for the winter and upcoming spring. If you’re looking for more information, this page includes a detailed bibliography, and most of these titles are available at the local library. 2024-Feb-28 `Several wildfires are ravaging northern Texas thanks to dry, windy and unseasonably warm conditions in the region. On Monday, thirteen fires across Texas burned a total of 77,135 acres, according to the Texas A&M Forest Service. Now, firefighters are still combatting several active fires across the Texas panhandle. The northernmost fire, named Smokehouse Creek, is at zero per cent containment as of late Tuesday afternoon and is estimated to be 200,000 acres. Meanwhile, the much smaller Windy Deuce and Grape Vine Creek fires are at 20 per cent containment, while the Juliet Pass fire is at 90 per cent... Dry and windy conditions amid unseasonably warm temperatures fuelled these fires. Drought conditions are not contributing — much of the panhandle has no drought, with just small portions of the western panhandle considered “abnormally dry” or in “moderate drought.” Winds could reach up to 65 miles per hour today, the National Weather Service (NWS) forecasts. Additional fires have continued to develop throughout Tuesday afternoon, the NWS for Amarillo, Texas said on X.` https://lnkd.in/eQYbhzhQ
