Today, we’re introducing @Instagram Teen Accounts, a new experience for teens, guided by parents. As a parent of two, I'm proud of the progress we're continuing to make here. Instagram Teen Account protections are designed to address parents’ biggest concerns, including who their teens are talking to online, the content they’re seeing and whether their time is being well spent. Starting this week, these protections are turned on automatically, and teens under 16 years old will need a parent’s permission to change any of the settings to be less strict. In the evolving digital age, how do we ensure a safer space for teens online? A small win with Instagram (and Meta) announcing and stepping up with meaningful changes aimed at protecting younger users. Mazel tov! As a platform where billions connect, these new 'teen accounts', including enhanced privacy settings, new tools to manage screen time, and limiting adult interactions - are crucial for safeguarding the digital well-being of teens. But here's the bigger question: Can these measures truly empower young people to navigate the digital world responsibly? 🤔 Teens today are digital natives, learning to balance connection and identity. While it's essential that platforms like Instagram bolster security, education and guidance are equally vital. We need to be part of the conversation with teens, helping them develop digital literacy, emotional resilience, and a keen sense of self-protection online. As businesses, educators, and parents, we must ask ourselves—how do we guide and equip this generation for the digital world while respecting their autonomy? A positive, yet small step forward with today's announcement but we need bigger steps to follow and continue the conversation about how we might design and create a safe, engaging, and empowering online experience for our future generations 🌱 #DigitalWellbeing #ChildSafety #Tech4Good #ResponsibleTechnology #OnlineSafety

Maybe kids will get some sleep now..Meta has introduced new safety features for teens on Instagram, addressing concerns raised by the community. The new "teen accounts" automatically come with enhanced safety settings, including private account settings, restricted messaging, and content restrictions. For those parents who have tried and failed to keep their kids away from horrible posts..teens attempting to bypass these settings will undergo age verification, with those under 16 requiring parental permission. These changes aim to create a safer online environment for young users.#safetybydesign #childprivacy #OnlineSafety https://lnkd.in/geU-pi5U

Introducing Instagram Teen Accounts 🎉 I’m excited to share that today we launched Teen Accounts on Instagram in the UK, US, Canada and Australia. Later this year, we’ll start rolling out to other EU countries. We know parents want to feel confident that their teens have a protected experience on Instagram while connecting with their friends and exploring their interests. That’s why we have created Teen Accounts. Teen Accounts have built-in protections which limit who can contact them and the content they see, and also provide new ways for teens to explore their interests. We’ll automatically place teens into Teen Accounts, and teens under 16 will need a parent’s permission to change any of these settings to be less strict. Teen Accounts provide teens with an experience designed specifically for them, with automatic defaults in place so parents can be reassured that their teens have heightened protections in place. They also give parents an easy toggle to limit how much their teen uses Instagram each day, and to restrict their use overnight. This new experience is designed to better support parents, and give them peace of mind that their teens have the right protections in place.
