"Investors say they care about women's health – but the numbers tell a different story." A recent Guardian article reveals a harsh reality: “Startups focused on women’s health are less likely to receive investment if there is a woman on the founding team.” Research from Sifted and Dealroom shows that female-founded women’s health startups receive 15% less funding than those led by men, despite these products being crucial for "50% of the population." This funding gap means that only 3% of all health-tech investment goes toward women’s health solutions, limiting much-needed innovation in reproductive health, menstrual care, and menopause support. It’s time to close this gap. We need to support founders working on solutions for women, regardless of gender, to drive equitable progress in health care. ➡️ Read more on The Guardian: https://lnkd.in/dPu8Xbe9 #HealthTech #WomensHealth #GenderEquity #Innovation (c) DALL.E

What happens when investment decisions in medicine are determined by 89% men? 5x more investment in “dick pills” (this caused considerable laughter 😂) than reproductive health. I’m not saying you don’t need 2 to tango, but COME ON! #femtech and #womenshealth have been massively under-served markets since time immemorial. It’s time to take the investment decisions into our own hands, and we need men to bring us to the table at times if we weren’t already invited. Instead of VCs saying “no, because I don’t understand it or it’s not a me problem … or I don’t know any women with that problem” try finding people that can offer a valuable perspective. #venturecapital #healthtech #medtech #investinwomen #womensmonth #privateequity #medicalresearch

What could advances in women’s health look like if an equity lens was embedded throughout the innovation process, from inspiration through deployment? This challenge and opportunity touches innovators, researchers, founders, investors, policymakers, and consumers. Without such intention, innovation in health care is rarely developed to explicitly incorporate the perspective of marginalized communities, address systemic issues, or address disparities in access or affordability. Without a health equity analysis, investments go towards companies and products that fail to meet the needs of the patient market they seek to serve. Worse, this mismatch can deepen the very disparities these innovations should mitigate. Diverse health care entrepreneurs are creating solutions but face barriers to research, venture, or grant investments. Closing the gaps in funding opportunities for underestimated founders can advance equity in health outcomes and unleash a new era of business growth, innovation, hiring, and prosperity. Thank you to Avestria Ventures for this analysis of fundraising for women's health in the first half of 2024. https://lnkd.in/eC5yVmqh #WomensHealth #HealthEquity #ImpactInvesting

Inclusive healthcare is a standard where individuals at any intersection of race, class, gender, age, ability, and sexuality have access to medical care and treatments that are respectful, dignified, and culturally competent. ⚕️ 👩🏾⚕️ 👨🏽⚕️ It advocates closing healthcare gaps through applicable and responsible research, while acknowledging there are no one-size-fits-all solutions. It’s both a major problem and a significant opportunity. Sarah Fergusson Chambless and Jennifer Yoo, in partnership with Rachael Kim of Femtech Salon, recently hosted a discussion on this important topic.
