let's us understand why there is no wifi in airplanes: There are several reasons why Wi-Fi is not always available on airplanes: 1. Air-to-ground connectivity: Planes fly at high altitudes, making it difficult to maintain a stable connection with cell towers on the ground. 2. Satellite connectivity: Although some planes use satellites to provide Wi-Fi, satellite signals can be weak and slow due to the plane's speed and altitude. 3. Interference: Other electronic systems on the plane, like navigation and communication equipment, can interfere with Wi-Fi signals. 4. Security: Airlines may restrict Wi-Fi access for security reasons, such as preventing hacking or unauthorized access to aircraft systems. 5. Regulations: Aviation authorities like the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) have regulations around in-flight Wi-Fi, which can limit its availability. 6. Cost and infrastructure: Installing and maintaining in-flight Wi-Fi requires significant investment in hardware, software, and satellite connectivity. 7. Airplane speed and altitude: Planes fly too fast and too high for traditional cell towers to provide a stable connection. 8.Technical limitations: Retrofitting existing aircraft with the necessary antennas, modems, and access points is expensive and time-consuming. However, many airlines are now offering in-flight Wi-Fi using satellite technology or air-to-ground networks, but the quality and availability may vary. Some countries, like India, have rules that prohibit the use of electronic devices that transmit radio signals on board aircraft. #Tech #Technology #cs #computerscience #wifi

𝐈𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐄𝐥𝐨𝐧 𝐌𝐮𝐬𝐤 𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐚? Imagine having super-fast, uninterrupted internet no matter where you are. Deep in the ocean, on remote islands, across deserts, on top of mountains, flying in aeroplanes, or even in places hit by disasters or wars. Basically, anywhere with a clear sky can get a satellite signal. That’s Starlink for you—Elon Musk’s satellite internet service. Now, Starlink wants to set up shop in India. But the Indian government isn’t rolling out the red carpet just yet. It has a laundry list of regulations that Starlink must follow before it can begin. #satellite #internet #government #signal #regulations #service For complete news: https://lnkd.in/geJHV5T2

The Importance of SATCOM in NextGen Avionics Satellite Communication (SATCOM) is a crucial technology in aviation, providing reliable and global communication capabilities that enhance safety, efficiency, and operational effectiveness, particularly over areas where traditional communication infrastructure is lacking, such as oceans, polar regions, and remote areas. SATCOM enables clear, direct voice communication between pilots and air traffic control (ATC) or airline operations centers, ensuring continuous contact even in remote regions. It supports Controller Pilot Data Link Communications (CPDLC), allowing text-based messaging for clearances, instructions, and reports, which reduces radio frequency congestion and miscommunication risks. Additionally, it facilitates the transmission of critical flight data, weather updates, and operational information, enhancing situational awareness and decision-making. SATCOM is extensively used for long-haul and transoceanic flights, ensuring continuous communication and tracking. It is integral to systems like the Future Air Navigation System (FANS) and Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Contract (ADS-C), which rely on satellite links to provide seamless communication and surveillance capabilities. The benefits of SATCOM include enhanced safety, operational efficiency, and global coverage. It provides consistent communication and tracking, crucial for emergency situations and remote operations. It also enables optimal flight routing, real-time weather updates, and efficient air traffic management, reducing delays and fuel consumption. Furthermore, SATCOM ensures communication and tracking capabilities irrespective of geographic location, supporting global aviation operations. SATCOM is vital for maintaining the safety, reliability, and efficiency of modern aviation, especially in regions beyond the reach of conventional communication systems. If you have SATCOM or other avionics, WiFi, or in-flight entertainment (IFE) related questions, contact the GoAeroMx team. #NextGenAvionics #NextGen #GAMX #GoAeroMx

The demand for seamless, cost-effective in-flight broadband is on the rise, but current satellite solutions like Ku and Ka-band face challenges—especially on short- and medium-haul flights. While they work well for long-haul intercontinental routes, their high costs, weight, latency, and limited coverage over landmasses make them less feasible for continental flights. In this blog, Joe Issac, Chief Technologist at Cyient, explores the challenges in achieving cost-effective inflight connectivity with LTE and Satcom, and how our LC-A2GIC solution is changing the game. By combining high-powered LTE and satellite connectivity, Cyient offers a hybrid solution that delivers both cost-effectiveness and high performance for passenger and critical flight communications. Disturbing videos and news circulating this week of ISWAP flying mini drones and wide deployment of Starlink satellite internet equipment in remote locations lends credence to the concern of WISER and validates conclusions of the OSIWA-funded project research findings, launched on 18 April 2024. Major among the findings is that the rapidity of development and advancement in information technology as its challenges national security, is its adaptability for harmful use, especially by ubiquitous and innovative rogue minds and agencies, which can only be regulated or defeated within a short window of time. Regulating agencies can only continue to play catch up as there is no possibility of longstanding regulations, rules or countermeasures. Find full report at www.whiteinkstitute.com.
