To install a door, begin by securing the main frame with sturdy anchors, like fish-tail supports, to ensure stability. Next, attach the door frame to the main frame and patch up any gaps, allowing it to cure fully before proceeding. Once cured, install the door leaf; hollow core doors are often easier to handle due to their light weight, reducing the risk of sagging and ensuring clearance from the floor. Solid core doors, however, are heavier and more likely to sink over time, even with heavy-duty hinges, due to their weight. Choosing the appropriate type and quality of door, based on supplier specifications and project needs, is essential for optimal installation and long-term performance. #DoorInstallation #ConstructionTips #HomeImprovement

I recently came across an image that I wanted to share, highlighting a common feature in most commercial buildings - a membrane roof. It's useful to know that leaks often occur at the seams rather than the heat-welded fastener areas. Additionally, be mindful that water can travel significant distances on steel roof ceilings and typically leaks occur where screws are used to secure insulation to the ceiling, which is often where I find the source of the leak.

Without the right conditions then you leave yourself open to potential long term legacy problems, even possible latent defects. These guidance notes are important regarding the need of adequate heating on site, this is required by manufacturers for their warranties as well as being best practice and meeting British standards. In this Part 1 of guidance and best practice, we would like to bring to your attention, “that of heat and light”, extracted from the Contract Flooring Associations (CFA); “Guide to Contract Flooring”: ROOM TEMPERATURE, HUMIDITY AND LIGHTING BS 5325, BS 8203, BS 8204 and BS 8425 advise that for the installation of most floorings, a steady work area temperature of between 18°C to 27°C should be maintained throughout the period of the installation of the flooring. They also advise that this temperature should be attained 48 hours prior to the installation and 24 hours post installation.

Our standard glass, known as insulating glass, consists of two layers with air in between. For taller buildings, large windows, or floor-to-ceiling glass, insulating laminated glass is required. Similar to mall glass railings, if broken, the fragments adhere to a film preventing them from falling or causing harm, ensuring safety. Like the human body's skeleton, aluminum alloy forms the framework of windows, providing strength and stability. With aluminum alloy, the likelihood of glass accidents decreases significantly. To safeguard against damage from strong winds, it's essential to engage a reputable contractor during construction. As a precaution, consider replacing standard insulating glass with insulating laminated glass. #hurricanewindows #housesafty

Fresh wall tile, but what is sticking out of the wall? Give up? A picture says a thousand words, but some context goes a long way. Project: SLPS Restroom Updates The top extrusion is a copper pipe. When you see copper think water line. The blue(painters) tape is around carrier bolts. This is what anchors the fixtures to the walls. Last is the waste line, the PVC pipe sticking out. Next up, floors and fixtures.

Repairing a concealed pipe leak involves several steps: Identify the Leak: Use a moisture meter or look for signs like water stains, mold growth, or damp spots on walls, ceilings, or floors. Access the Pipe: Depending on where the leak is, you may need to open up walls, ceilings, or floors. This can be challenging and may require professional help. Stop the Leak: Once you have access, turn off the water supply to the affected area. Repair the leak by replacing the damaged section of pipe or applying a suitable sealant. Inspect for Damage: Check for any water damage to surrounding materials like drywall or insulation. Replace or repair as necessary to prevent future issues. Restore the Area: Once the repair is complete and everything is dry, replace any removed materials and ensure the area is properly sealed and painted. Monitor: Keep an eye on the repaired area for any signs of recurring leaks or moisture buildup. If you're not comfortable with these steps or the leak is extensive, it's best to consult with us to ensure the repair is done correctly and safely.

Over the years, properties may have been modified multiple times, and inexpert workmanship or gradual degradation of components following building work can cause internal dampness to develop, which often looks to be rising dampness. For example, a former owner might have installed a new driveway, which has resulted in the external ground level rising up above the line of the damp proof course. When this happens, it doesn’t matter if the DPC is working properly, as brickwork above the DPC will be saturated anyway. For similar reasons, if you or your neighbour props up items for storage against an external wall, or perhaps installs raised planters or decking, a similar situation can arise. We often find dampness in properties which have been retrofitted with cavity wall insulation. If the mortar pointing between bricks on the outer walls is not well maintained, this can allow outer brickwork to become porous, which saturates cavity wall insulation and allows internal dampness to develop as the wall tries to dry out.
