Fantastic articulation of why African-led research is critical for African-led decision-making as well as for informing external funding/investment.
"I envision a future where education research produced by Africans is used by policymakers and practitioners to drive decisions, shape policies, and improve outcomes in the education sector." In this video, Dr Moses Ngware from the African Population and Health Research Center shares why he joined the steering committee of the Enhancing Education Research in Africa (EERA) project and his vision for the African education research ecosystem. The EERA project, led by ESSA and Southern Hemisphere, aims to empower Africa-based researchers by providing them with the resources to establish a robust and sustainable African education research ecosystem. By building on existing knowledge and leveraging ongoing initiatives, this inclusive process will ensure the effective use of locally generated evidence to enhance education. This project is funded by Echidna Giving, Imaginable Futures, and the Jacobs Foundation. Learn more about the project: https://lnkd.in/ehiqs9Bh

Stellenbosch University is pleased to announce an upcoming conference, titled “Controversies in the Use of Race and Other Human Categorisations in the South African Higher Education Sector”. 📅 12–13 June 2024 📍 Stellenbosch Institute for Advanced Study (STIAS) This conference, organised by the Committee for the Institutional Response to the (Khampepe) Commission’s Recommendations (CIRCoRe), seeks to critically examine the use of human group descriptors in the sciences with a focus on the use of race and its attendant problems. This includes problems such as the questionable use of race in various disciplinary settings in the social and natural sciences from anthropology to forensic science. This conference also aims to explore the role of antiquated views about human beings and their groupings in the perpetuation of scientific racism in South Africa. We invite scholars, researchers, practitioners, students and all other interested parties to engage in this important discourse.
