▶ NSPCC revamps its learning strategy, with child wellbeing at its heart ◀ The NSPCCs mission is to prevent abuse and neglect. The landscape of safeguarding children has changed significantly in recent years. To better support volunteers and employees alike, the NSPCC implemented a learning strategy, ensuring that employees and volunteers could meet the rising needs of vulnerable children while embracing change. “With our new learning offering, #employees and #volunteers are more engaged – as measured through our workforce engagement index. Connections are being made, knowledge gaps are being filled, and all of this is improving what we’re able to deliver for children through attracting and retaining people who are empowered and supported to continuously learn so that they can give their best.”, says @Liane Smith, Head of Volunteer and Employee Engagement and Development at NSPCC. The NSPCC’s mandatory unconscious bias training for instance has seen a 99% completion rate. The NSPCC also adopted a 360 appraisal for its leaders whereby feedback is given on their inclusive leadership behaviours. This feedback then forms part of their annual performance review, incentivising progress and creating leaders who listen and learn. How does PBS help? Positive Behaviour Support helps by reducing the barriers that prevent a person from enjoying the quality of life that they would like. Understanding what the barriers are, what is difficult within the person's environment, and what a person is communicating are all key aspects of creating person-centered and consistent environments in which a person can thrive. Positive Behaviour Support is not just a plan provided to staff or families. It is a set of frameworks that are underpinned by key values, theory, and the operational systems for implementation. We work with organisations across all sectors and we've done so for over 14 years. By embracing and understanding neurodiversity - as well as taking action to support the neurodiverse workforce this has the potential to help reduce work-related stress as well as improving work performance. With appropriate person-centred support available for those who need it - and ensuring people know about this it has the potential to widen the talent pool.
