And that's a wrap on Day 2 of #UKREiiF! Placefirst's David Mawson took part in the "Towards Sustainable Urban Living: Redefining Residential Development for a Greener Future" panel and we had an insightful discussion on our sponsored panel, "Homes for Key Workers: How can Single-Family Rental Solutions and Public/Private Sector Collaboration Help?” featuring Anna Hwang. Key Highlights: · Oxford Survey Insight: 68% of respondents identified the lack of affordable housing close to work as the primary reason for considering a job change. · Growing Need: The demand for key worker housing is on the rise, emphasising the importance of affordable options and security of tenure. · Homes England: Are exploring the best use of existing public sector land and assessing the impact of an aging population on housing needs. · Diverse Key Workers: Key workers extend beyond nurses and recent graduates, making Single-Family Housing (SFH) crucial for various worker types. · Viability Challenge: Understanding that SFH is a product intended for long-term rental rather than sale can help unlock land more efficiently. A big thank you to the panelists for their valuable insights: Anna Hwang - Placefirst Peter Denton - Homes England Becca Heron - Manchester City Council Sarah Hordern - NHS Workforce Alliance Shamez Alibhai - Man Group

Is affordable housing simply a buzzword, or is it the key to retaining skilled workers in our communities? As we see in Tampa, significant strides are being made to address this critical issue. Tampa General Hospital's investment in a $60 million workforce housing project reflects a growing recognition of the housing challenges faced by those dedicated to our healthcare system. By providing affordable options, they not only support their employees but also enhance the overall stability of our region's workforce. This initiative shines a light on a broader trend where industries, including education, are stepping up to develop workforce housing. It's clear that access to affordable living directly influences recruitment and retention, especially in vital sectors like healthcare and education. As a Realtor, I understand the importance of affordable housing in maintaining balanced communities. When employers invest in housing for their employees, it strengthens the local economy and improves quality of life for everyone. Let’s continue to advocate for and explore innovative solutions to this pressing issue. #AffordableHousing #WorkforceHousing #CommunityDevelopment #RealEstate #Healthcare #TampaBay

If Day 1 of UKREiiF was all about delivering more housing and places, Day 2 focused on how these contribute to community health. 🏥 Our client, Anna Hwang, Chief Investment Officer at BTR developer and operator Placefirst, spoke on a panel about the importance of housing support for the NHS and creating healthy places. Sarah Hordern, Chair of NHS Homes Alliance, highlighted that 68% of Oxford’s NHS workers cited the lack of affordable housing near work as a reason they might leave their job. Given the UK's growing health crisis, it's clear that homes in the right locations are vital for safeguarding the NHS and public health sustainability. Anna spoke of the role that high-quality BTR developments can play in creating affordable housing for key workers. Long hours and shift patterns make minimising commute times and ensuring reliable property maintenance essential. The solution? All speakers agree that greater partnership and collaboration across the public and private sectors is vital to minimise the risk for all parties and speed up delivery. 🏡 In a separate conversation about creating healthy towns and cities, our client Paul Richards, Chief Executive of Stockport MDC and Director of Development and Regeneration for Stockport Council, emphasised that “better homes and better jobs extend the life expectancy of an area's population. That’s what regeneration is all about.” Leeds City Council’s Angela Barnicle MRICS CMgr MCMI added that bridging the socioeconomic gaps across cities through regeneration is critical. To achieve this, the industry must listen to communities. Amy Butterworth, CEO of Make It Happen Birkenhead, and Muse’s Phil Marsden, Managing Director – North West, stressed the need for collaborating with trusted third-party voices to bridge communication gaps. As Paul said, finding partners who understand the community’s voice is more important than ever. Tri-county employers have long lamented the shortage of affordable housing that stymies them from attracting and retaining workers. Santa Barbara-based Cottage Health is tackling the problem with plans to build 204 new homes at two locations for its employees to buy at below-market prices. Dubbed the American Riviera, high-demand Santa Barbara is one of the most expensive places to live in the country, including housing costs. https://lnkd.in/gfYDUZQb

Australia’s growth areas deserve better planning! We need a fresh approach to how we plan and support liveability in Australia’s Growth Area suburbs. New Growth Area Liveability Scorecards, developed by the National Growth Areas Alliance (NGAA) in partnership with the Australian Urban Observatory RMIT University, uncover significant gaps in social infrastructure in growth areas compared to non-growth areas. Social infrastructure refers to the publicly funded services and resources that underpin our communities. These are not just "nice-to-haves"—they are essential for fostering wellbeing and liveability across a person’s lifespan. Currently, Australia relies on a population-based planning system that is leaving many of our fastest-growing communities underserved. Growth Area suburbs need a comprehensive planning solution tailored to their unique challenges. This Guardian article highlights the urgency of addressing these deficits and ensuring that all Australians, regardless of where they live, have access to the services and spaces they need to thrive. 📖 Read the full story below. #UrbanPlanning #Liveability #GrowthAreas #SocialInfrastructure #NGAA #RMIT https://lnkd.in/gQdsKGYv

So glad that #esentranslationservices is part of the first #BrooklynCommunitiesCollective Health Enterprise Small Business program! We're learning more and more about how to best position our companies for further growth, particularly by contacting anchor institutions, such as hospitals and clinics. Those same principles can work with other clients as well. Here are a few of my top takeaways: 1. Do SWOT analyses more often. 2. #NYSMWBE and #NYCMWBE, #HUBZone, #LBE...and maybe #EDWOSB? I'd better start "small": NYC M/WBE. However...it just so happens that #ESD is supporting Hispanic Heritage Month in New York State by encouraging M/WBE owners to apply for NYS M/WBE certification. (Enough acronyms for ya?) 3. Create a work-from-home safety handout that I can include in my independent contractor on-boarding process. All my contractors are remote, so this will be very practical. (Thanks to the instructive presentation given by Mr. Anthony Tomaselli, Advocate from the NYS Worker's Compensation Board!) The New York State Department of Health has a booklet available that provides many useful tips: "Home SAFE Home". 4. If you received a list of all the mayoral agencies (and 5 non-mayoral agencies), would you market to all of them, or only 2 or 3? We had a lively discussion about that! Hard to believe that we're coming up to Session 6! Thank you, #anitapierce from #eleven3seven5, #gretchensusi from #BrooklynCommunitiesCollective and the Department of Urban Planning and Policy at Hunter College-CUNY for your support! 4.

While my policies are Canberra wide, l've been listening closely to the people of Yerrabi. These local issues are urgent, and I'm working hard to address them: 1. Traffic Congestion: Yerrabi is growing fast, and our infrastructure must catch up. I'm pushing for real solutions to reduce congestion. 2. Healthcare for Young Families: We need better local healthcare services, including after-hours care for mothers and newborns, and mental health support services that are easily accessible and close to home. 3. Safety in Our Community: Safety is non-negotiable. I'm advocating for more community policing and resources to ensure Yerrabi is a safe place for everyone. 4. Supporting Teachers & Schools: I'm working to secure better support for teachers, because when teachers thrive, students succeed. 5. Parks & Maintenance: Our parks and green spaces are vital for community wellbeing. I'm fighting for proper maintenance and upgrades to create spaces that all families can enjoy. Then: Where It All Began At the start of this campaign, I promised to tackle both Canberra wide and Yerrabi specific issues. I committed to standing up for affordable healthcare, housing, and small businesses, while addressing the unique needs of Yerrabi residents. Now: Progress & Action We've been actively engaging with the community: door-knocking, attending forums, and listening closely to what matters most to you. I've been advocating for practical solutions to Yerrabi's traffic issues, safety concerns, healthcare gaps, and education challenges. We've worked on Canberra-wide policies that will lift up our entire city, while also ensuring Yerrabi's voices are heard. What's Next? -The work doesn't stop here. I'm committed to continuing the conversation, hearing your feedback, and turning those insights into action. -As we move forward, expect regular updates and full transparency about our progress. This campaign is about you, and together, we'll keep driving the change Yerrabi needs. I'm here for Yerrabi, and I'm here for Canberra. Let's continue this journey together. P.c-Canberra Weekly
