Don't send your profile to unknown recruiters You should send your CV only to the recruiters who are looking for professionals/candidates for a particular open position. There are several recruiters in Nigeria and even outside the country who only want to build-up a database or CVs. Be careful whom you send your personal info to. I had two interviews with this Digital Agency in Abuja here last month for the role of Social Media Strategist. First interview was a very brief virtual call (which I'm super certain I impressed; because the CEO couldn't stop talking about my pointers during the physical interview) & I was then invited in for a physical interview which I'm very sure I aced. The next phase was supposed to be the physical onboarding session before full employment was offered. It's been about three weeks now, still no response from them. I even did a follow up on them asking for further updates since my interview, no response. It's just a very ghetto behavior in my very honest opinion. PS: I later saw that they opened applications for intern roles in the same role they were trying to hire me in (on a different job platform). I was like okayyyyyyy!!! This is how you people used to do?🤔🤔🤔 Dear HR & Hiring Managers (plus hiring CEOs), Stop ghosting candidates. It's not good! Especially when they've done a few rounds of interviews in your recruiting processes. Imagine pe it was you they ghosted like this, will you like it?😏🤔 You people should do better o! The REFERENCES/REFEREES section of your CV Who/what are they? Providers of further details about your work experience, competences and skills. They are there to vouch for you when the recruiters are doing background research about your professional history. OPTION ONE 1. State the name 2. Designation in the concerned organisation 3. The organisation 4. The organization’s location (City and Country) 5. Email Address 6. Cell/Telephone number (with country code) - Stick to the professional referees - Have a maximum of three - The number may depend on the requirements of the recruiting company's vacancy advert, but they normally seek for three traceable referees. OPTION TWO - You state: “Available Upon Request” (This option is not yet prevalent on the Zimbabwean Job Market, but it's quite a standard procedure internationally) You can do this if: (a) The referees changed the organisation from the time you were working there. (b) You are not sure if they still hold the relevant position/designation that will suffice to be a credible source of further information about you. (c) You need to protect the identities of unsuspecting professionals who may get you in trouble for publishing their contact details. DO THIS NOW IF YOU WANT TO GET THAT JOB! "I have been applying for jobs, but I haven't been getting feedback from the HRs." This and more are questions we get from job seekers. Just 3 weeks ago, a young lady named Nnenna reached out to us on WhatsApp and said, "She felt stuck in her job search; I have applied for almost 25 applications." The Problem: Nnenna had been sending out the same CV to every job she found, hoping something would stick. But after months of no response, she began to worry if she would ever get hired. Many job seekers make this same mistake. Our Question: Have you been tailoring your CV to the job you've been applying for? Her Answer: Not Really Our Advice: Stop sending random CVs, and learn how to always tailor your CV for each job application. Instead of sending out the same resume, we advised her to carefully read each job description and adjust her CV to match the skills and experiences the employer is looking for. This meant highlighting relevant achievements, using keywords from the job posting, and showing how her past work directly related to the position she wanted. The Change: After taking this advice to heart, Nnenna spent time tailoring her CV for each application; though it was stressful, it was worth doing. Just last week, she started getting emails and calls for interviews in Lagos, Nigeria. This principle works anywhere, no matter your country or continent. Did she get the job after her interview?
