I am happy to share our latest paper in arxiv:2410.21424v1, Spin-1 Haldane phase in a chain of Rydberg atoms. This paper presents an experimentally accessible protocol to implement a spin-1 Haldane phase (symmetry protected topological phase) in a chain of Rydberg atoms, opening the way to probe remarkable properties of the Haldane phase. https://lnkd.in/dAV7bCTX Johannes Mögerle Ana Teresa Gea Caballero

Happy belated International Pi Day! Did you know that pi can now be calculated to 31 trillion digits? I remember learning pi up to 20 decimal places when at school! As the article states, the concept of pi is the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter. What I found particularly interesting was the inspiring story of William Jones, a young mathematician who first introduced the symbol for pi in 1706. Jones is remembered on March 14th each year, as the American-style date 3/14 represents the first three digits of pi. Check out the article to learn more about the fascinating history and significance of pi: https://lnkd.in/ebvH8PA3

Indeed a relevant but overlooked non-properly-rewarded way of (potentially) having an impact in society from academic knowledge, and also learning from society's knowledge and expertise. An interesting (historical) question would be the socio-political context in which this two-way transfer instrument came into being and was adopted by universities. Was it to compensate the burdens and cumbursome process of transferring knowledge in the form of patents/spin-offs/start-ups? Julia Olmos Peñuela Ana García-Granero Oscar Llopis Francisco Javier Ortega-Colomer I look forward to knowing more about this phenomenon, and the different meanings and uses that different actors and/or stakeholders attach to it.
@INN4ALL will be attending the @IRSPM 2024 Conference in Tampere. Our paper will unveil preliminary findings from a study on university chairs in Spain, portraying them as hybrid structures bridging the realms of science and societal interests. See you there! 😀

I was briefly featured in the latest video by Gesellschaft für Tribologie e.V., where I was captured discussing the experimental testing of tribological systems such as clutches and synchronizers at our Gear Research Center (FZG). For further insights, refer to our peer-reviewed publication titled „Experimental Setup for the Investigation of Wet Shifting Elements“ published in TuS (https://lnkd.in/dVe-nrYm). In "Serendipity," the award-winning author of "Imperfection," Telmo Pievani, returns to weave a compelling story about the unexpected in science and its fascinating role in our understanding of the world. Going far beyond the usual examples of penicillin, X-rays, the microwave oven, and Christopher Columbus, Pievani shows that the most surprising stories of serendipity in the history of science reveal profound aspects of the logic of scientific discovery: https://bit.ly/3XfgO8X

This just published piece is one of the best papers I have read about neoliberal academia. Engaging not only intellectually but also emotionally and bodily. A story about middle-aged white male, an excellent scholar in academia, who produces thousand of high quality papers in best journals - papers relevant only to his career. Mr Sackker has a lot of feudal followers of course - those who believe that getting grants and publishing would make them great scholars. He is developing own research school by citing own publications and he even has time to publish aphorisms! Everyone wants to be like HIM! I think that many people in academia know such persons-workaholics admired by others who produce papers that have meaning only for ther careers and for the capitalist system of performance evaluation. But who think narcissistically that they are good scholars. Neoliberal academia makes such behaviours adiaphoric: beyond good and evil and beyond moral scrutiny. This story is also a very good mirror to reflect on myself: how far I follow mr Suckker career? #neoliberalacademia #excellentscholar
