👀 ‘Nuisance tripping’ is something we encounter occasionally, particularly in power to distribution panels for temporary equipment. We do enjoy the challenge of fault finding, so when a customer called us with a panel that was serving LED advertising screens in a major stadium that had tripped, we sent Dave along to have a look.
✏️ ‘Nuisance tripping’ turned out to be, in the words of the customer’s representative
‘a bang you could hear from 15m away with the door shut’. Having turned off the power at the source, Dave opened the enclosure to look. While we follow a method for fault finding, some things stand out, and you need to explore the whole picture.
✏️ It appears that the manufacturer’s maximum recommended humidity levels are being exceeded...
✏️ The panel is in a corner of the site where there is very little sunlight. Also, it’s made of steel, not thermally insulated, and not particularly well ventilated or heated. None of these are good for keeping condensation levels down.
✔️ Well done to Dave for taking the environment into account as well as the electrical equipment.

Most homes and businesses have a unbalanced main breaker box which causes the electrical bill to be higher then it should. Especially if adding sub panels and adding extra equipment or additional rooms and etc. this video explains this!

In this month's video blog, Brent Heise, our Sales Manager, Technical Support, Research and Development, demonstrates how to shorten the length of a Retro-Line system during installation. This innovative in-pipe heating cable system is designed to provide reliable freeze protection for water supply pipes and drains, and sometimes adjustments are necessary to ensure a correct fit.
Accurate measurement is critical when installing Retro-Line, particularly in well water supply lines with a pitless adapter. Ensuring the cable length is correct helps maintain the serviceability of the well and ensures the Retro-Line system functions as intended. It is important to note that Retro-Line systems can only be shortened on-site—they cannot be made longer—it is always best to measure accurately, and in certain situations, it’s better to allow for a slightly longer length to ensure complete protection.
The featured installation uses a 30-foot Retro-Line system configured with a 90° to water tee fitting, showcasing how to address situations where the heating cable is longer than the well pipe.
This video highlights the following key steps:
• Identifying when a Retro-Line adjustment is needed
• Safely shortening the cable to fit within the system
• Completing the final connections for a secure and functional installation

Power surges can happen anywhere, but 60 to 80% of them originate from equipment inside buildings. Power surges can be caused by switching electrical loads from contactors, relays, and breakers, as well as the switching of capacitor banks. Discharge of inductive devices can also cause surges as well as faults or arc initiations. Invest in surge protective devices to protect your equipment: https://lnkd.in/gkauHjmv
🚨 Electrical Warning Signs You Can't Afford to Ignore! 🚨
1. Frequent Circuit Breaker Trips: Constant tripping means overload or faults. Don't overlook it!
2. Harmonics Issue: Tripping breakers, even with normal R.M.S. current, could indicate harmonic heating. Time to check!
3. Strange Sounds & Smells: Buzzing sounds and the smell of burning plastic are red flags. They signify worsening issues.
4. Overloaded Wiring: Today's tech-heavy demands can overburden old wiring, especially in facilities with outdated systems.
Don't wait for a disaster. Routine checks are key . Bowtie Engineering has your back. Let’s ensure your electrical system is safe and sound. Contact us now!
