Tomorrow, Tuesday Dec. 3, is #GivingTuesday, a global day to support the causes you care about. When you make a gift to PEC, you are giving back to the lands, waters and communities of the Virginia Piedmont. PEC has worked with individuals like you to make positive changes in our communities and to conserve, protect, and restore the Piedmont. Your support is critical as we work to accelerate the rate of conservation and rise up to unprecedented challenges regarding the region’s energy and land use. Thanks to a generous dollar-for-dollar match, your gift has twice the impact through midnight on Tuesday, Dec. 3 at pecva.org/givingtuesday

American Forests is honored and thrilled to be included among the grantees in this round of the Innovative Finance for National Forests (IFNF) grant awards. Thank you U.S. Endowment for Forestry and Communities and USDA Forest Service National Partnership Office for your support of our work with Green Diamond Resource Company, Collins, Oregon Department of Forestry, Bureau of Land Management, Blue Forest, and others. Together we are developing a roadmap for #SeedSecurity for all land ownerships in the landscapes of South Central Oregon where high-severity wildfire has recently hit hard, killing the vast majority of the trees across an area of forest 10x the size of Washington, DC. After all this fire, it turns out that the Fremont-Winema National Forest does not have nearly enough seed to reforest the acres in need. The good news is that this year American Forests will be taking advantage of the largest cone crop that the region has seen in decades! We will be collecting as much as we possibly can from trees all across the national forest. But, the region will see more fire in coming years, and we also need to account for a shift in seed source suitability due to climate change. That's where the seed orchard comes in. When developed, this cooperative seed orchard will produce enough climate-adapted seed to produce 10 million seedlings per year.
We're thrilled to share the first of a two-part series announcing the Endowment's 2024 Innovative Finance for National Forests (IFNF) Program grantees! With projects and initiatives that include watershed restoration and resilience, reducing wildfire risk, and habitat restoration, these grantees are to be commended for their forward thinking and concern for the future of our forests. Breaking: Today, President Biden issued an ambitious goal to reconnect, restore, and protect 8 million acres of wetlands and 100,000 miles of rivers and streams by 2030 and challenged states, communities, nonprofits, Tribes, and others to partner in achieving this important work. Pew is one of more than 100 entities that have accepted this challenge. We’ll continue to collaborate with states, Tribes, and others to protect these essential yet at-risk habitats that help: ✅Fight climate change ✅Support wildlife ✅Provide clean drinking water ✅Sustain local economies

Mangrove forests are vital ecosystems, sequestering carbon, nurturing marine life, and shielding communities from storms. Each hectare can provide a community with significant economic benefits — but restoration projects are often stymied by insecure land tenure for the farmers, fishers, and other villagers who call the land home. By strengthening local land rights, we can safeguard these critical ecosystems and the livelihoods they support. Read more: https://refore.st/3KaBdWJ

Yet another reason why a Richmond California transformation is so promising. Richmond is central to the obscene and aggressive maneuvering by the Fossil Fuel Industry and #BABS (bad acting billionaires). Raise enough money and we could expand scope to include both Solano and Contra Costa Counties in the pilot program for rapid transformation to planet positive, life affirming bioregional communities in service to all life. Time is not on our side. https://lnkd.in/g77Y7EzG

From our friends at Turtle Cove Research Center: please consider helping them raise the funds for their next phase of solar battery resilience in their groundbreaking facilities! Wonderful and Supportive Friends of Turtle Cove: Southeastern's 2024 Giving Day is upon us again-----and it is only two days away----this Wednesday, September 18, 2024. As you all already know, our Turtle Cove Environmental Research Station program has won first place (as an individual Southeastern program) the past 4 years running, and I am hoping that this year will make it 5 in a row. We have only been able to do this because you, our dear Turtle Cove friends, who are without question the best friends a program could ever hope to have! And me and our staff sincerely thank you all for your loyal support over all these years. This year, Giving Day 2024, we are again fundraising for a Net-Zero Solar Panel/Battery Back-Up Electrical System at Turtle Cove itself, on the south shore of Pass Manchac, as part of our post-IDA renovations to help "future-proof" Turtle Cove. We already have had a system at our Turtle Cove Galva Canal Boatshed in Manchac, and it has performed outstandingly for us. Being "net zero" is one of the best things we have ever done, and is so important in the effort to address climate change. Last year we raised approximately $20,000 towards the estimated $85,000 price tag for doing this same thing at Turtle Cove. So we again want to try to reach this goal, and to do it this year. Check out our own Turtle Cove Giving Day website at: https://lnkd.in/gbnr7_FG and donate there. Note that the system we are aiming for at Turtle Cove is a bit different from the one at the Galva boatshed in that it will have the solar panels on a "standing frame" in the Turtle Cove yard as opposed to on the roof. And this is a great time to do it, as we are undergoing the post-IDA renovations at Turtle Cove in which a major component is the replacement of the beautiful 1908 original French Tile roof with a steel shingle look-alike that will now be able to withstand hurricane force winds. SIDE NOTE: Don't worry, we have saved the approx. 2,000 original French Tiles to be used in future art, fundraising and donation/gift activities----more on that later......See the Link above for photos of our Galva solar system and Turtle Cove roof renovation activities. So starting this Wednesday morning, please go to the website https://lnkd.in/gbnr7_FG and help support our efforts for a net-zero solar system at the Turtle Cove Environmental Research Station on Pass Manchac. I'll be sending you reminders and updates over the next few days. And again, thank you for all of the support you have given us over the years---we greatly appreciate all you have done, and look forward to achieving more milestones with you in the future.

Our mission is to conserve and steward #Oregon’s wetlands in partnership with communities. In our ideal future, Oregon’s #wetlands thrive. They are protected across the state, people understand their function and value, and the benefits of wetlands are equitably shared by all Oregonians. What questions do you have about The Wetlands Conservancy?
