#Symantec has recently observed a peculiar malspam campaign in #Indonesia where the actor is running a sophisticated email scheme impersonating the School of Electrical Engineering and Informatics (#STEI) at the Institut Teknologi Bandung (#ITB) in Indonesia. The malicious email (subject: Pendaftaran Pra-GEMASTIK ITB 2024) uses a social engineering tactic related to the registration for "Pra-GEMASTIK ITB 2024," a preparatory event for ITB (Institut Teknologi Bandung) to participate in the National Student Performance Event in the field of Information and Communication Technology (GEMASTIK) 2024, organized by the National Achievement Center. The preparation involves selection processes, training sessions, and mentoring before the actual #GEMASTIK 2024 event. Attached to the email is a JPG file (pragemastik.jpg) that contains a malicious PE which will be executed when opened. This PE then triggers a chain of loaders, ultimately deploying the #AgentTesla infostealer on the compromised machine.
