- Rethinking the Terminal - Why Warp Impresses Where Others Don't In my career, I've come across countless software solutions. But only a handful have truly impressed me. Google's V8 engine stands out for its innovation. Recently, Warp Terminal (warp.dev) joined that elite group. Unlike for (example) ChatGPT, which feels like a clever application of existing ideas on more powerful hardware, Warp feels like a fundamental shift. It's a ground-up re-imagining of the terminal experience, not just a prettier shell. Warp goes beyond basic emulation. It offers a modern, intuitive interface that makes working in the terminal a pleasure. From smart completions to intuitive editing, it streamlines workflows for developers of all levels. Some of my favourite features include workflows (essentially saved commands snippets with variables, multi-cursor editing, vim mode and the brand new notebooks (like jupyter). If you're looking for a terminal that elevates your development experience, look no further than Warp. It's a breath of fresh air in a landscape often defined by incremental improvements. https://lnkd.in/eCXCf8iy #WarpTerminal #DeveloperTools #SoftwareInnovation

In this tutorial, we’ll explore building a screen parsing agent using GPT-4o and OmniParser. Our goal is to demonstrate locking a computer, specifically a MacOS device, using this agent. https://lnkd.in/gWssa-MS #agenticai #omniparser #llm #automation #productivityhack #gpt4o

As a Sublime Text stan, I was drawn to a Hacker News post from yesterday about a problem where saved file names would get a spurious suffix. Turns out it's not Sublime Text, it's the macOS save dialog doing it, on the new Sequoia version released last week. So, a bug in the OS. A weird and maybe embarrassing bug, but man, the toxicity in the comments. "It's an unforgivable bug." "... when you interview for companies like this you have to basically prove that you are in the top 1% developers in the world, just to find sh*t like this being released in the wild ..." "Did no one try to save a file during the whole beta?" "... this company is worth a trillion dollars yet can’t get basic sh*t right." "Wow, this is truly some 'Staff Engineer, Level 7, TC: 900k' stuff." "Sequoia is the biggest dumpster fire OS I think I've ever seen ..." Remember that there are living, breathing fellow humans behind the software you use (gently shoving AI into the corner for now), and they are expected to make mistakes. Yes, even big ones. My rate of goofs per day is certainly greater than one, and I doubt I'm the only one with that score. I am well aware of my own glass house, and those all too willing to throw stones should notice theirs, too. Remember the prime directive of retrospectives: > Regardless of what we discover, we understand and truly believe that everyone did the best job they could, given what they knew at the time, their skills and abilities, the resources available, and the situation at hand. -- Norm Kerth #macos #bugs #toxicity

Warp — The Terminal Reimagined for Modern Developers If you’re a developer who spends a lot of time on the command line, you owe it to yourself to check out Warp — a groundbreaking new terminal that supercharges your productivity with AI assistance, modern editing capabilities, and collaborative workflows. The first thing that struck me about Warp is just how fast and responsive it feels. Built with Rust, it boots up instantly and inputs register with zero lag. But it’s the innovative feature set that really makes Warp shine. Modern Editing: One of my biggest pain points with traditional terminals is the clunky text editing experience. Warp addresses this brilliantly with an editing mode that feels just like a modern IDE. You can use the keyboard or mouse to insert, copy, select text with ease. Vim keybindings are supported out of the box. And smart completions help you type commands faster without needing to install plugins. AI Command Generation: This is where Warp gets really magical. You can just describe what you want to do in plain English, and Warp’s built-in AI will generate the appropriate command(s) for you. No more furiously Googling or checking man pages — Warp’s AI acts as an intelligent command line assistant. And crucially, all processing happens locally, so your data stays private. Warp Drive Workflows: Warp Drive is a revolutionary way to save, organize and share terminal commands and workflows across your team. You can parameterize commands, categorize them into collections, and bring up any workflow on demand with a few keystrokes. For teams, Warp Drive acts as a centralized, realtime-updated knowledge base for all your company’s scripts and DevOps processes. I’ve barely scratched the surface of Warp’s capabilities here. It also has great customization options for themes, secure encrypted data storage, optional cloud backup, and more. After using Warp for a few weeks, going back to a traditional terminal feels like driving a beat-up pickup truck after getting used to a Tesla. Warp is currently in beta, but you can request access and download it for Mac, Windows or Linux at warp.dev. For any developer who wants to supercharge their command line productivity, it’s an absolute must-try. Highly recommended! https://lnkd.in/gj-jdZeJ
