I knew I'd open the comments to an onslaught of "flack" for your opinion. I'll add my thoughts, even though you may not find them "professional" enough. In this world of digital living, even our professional lives require a measure of PERSONAL TOUCH to help us connect with others, be relatable to people, and build trust. Whether someone is using LinkedIn to seek out job opportunities, offer employment, or promote his/her business, there are no rules against being personal. Yes, this is a channel that encourages professionalism, but I've had more inbound work come from my poetry shares than any post about marketing. Why? Because when people LIKE YOU, they want to do business with you! Same applies for job-seekers. If someone sees you posting witty, intelligent, fun takes on life...I'd say they're probably more inclined to want to bring you on board. But hey... regardless of opinions, you can always help the algorithm by deleting posts you don't like and engaging with the ones you want to see more of. 😉 (I'm fed up with political posts here... but I haven't given time and energy to posting a complaint.) 💁🏼♀️

Curious. Do you think it's professional to go around telling other professionals how to behave when you are not in any position of authority or superiority? Spouting your personal opinions about content on LinkedIn makes you beyond hypocritical. Practice what you preach bro. The same way you don't want to see other people's post, nobody asked you for this one. Did your manager make you do it? 🤡

A wife's husband is diagnosed with cancer. One day at an office meeting before everyone has arrives she and a coworker are talking about what she's going through, the wife barely concealing her tears... Suddenly the door opens. The boss walks in and seeing the two women having a heart felt conversation, immediately says let's cut the chit-chat.ladies this is business... There are many ways to make yourself a cold, unfeeling, inhuman automaton. Telling another person to keep it.professional and leave your friends and family at home is one of those ways.

Perhaps instead of judging others who post about topics you don't approve of, start instead by considering WHY they feel the need to post about what they do. And then next ask yourself why it bothers you so much. That it bothers you says much more about you than it does about anyone else. The alternative is to ignore it and move on.

Everything is tied together. Business and personal life are deeply interconnected, and LinkedIn is a platform where authenticity thrives. Sharing stories about life, friends, and family often provides valuable context for who we are as professionals. It helps us build trust, form genuine connections, and showcase the human side of leadership and teamwork. Activism and 'making the world a better place' require authenticity, which includes sharing real-life experiences. Let’s embrace the diversity of content that makes LinkedIn a powerful space for connection and growth—both personally and professionally.
