Philip Joyce’s Post

Monopoly needs further government intervention to ensure customers get $10s of millions of benefits every year. ⚖️ It’s no secret that the only way path to a competitive Australian e-conveyancing market is through the existing network interoperability reform. This reform has bipartisan state and federal support. The policy is sound. The benefits are clear. 🚀 However, the execution is being actively derailed. Important conversation in the Senate Economics Committee in the video link below. Senator Dean Smith asking the right questions of Gina Cass-Gottlieb It’s clear that this reform has the ACCC’s attention. It’s also clear that more active intervention is required at both state and federal level. At the upcoming Ministerial forum (Tues 11 June) –  the industry is crying out for an assertive statement that steps will be taken to ensure this important competition reform will be delivered by December 2025. This is critical to enable genuine customer choice and unlock $10s of millions of benefits for customers. Every year. At Sympli we're determined to bring these benefits to everyday Australians buying & selling houses and the thousands of conveyancing businesses that support this critical process. #competition #customerchoice #productivitybenefits #housingaffordability #helpsmallbusiness https://lnkd.in/dZn8KnVG

Lots and lots of talk that is getting us somewhere; but oh so slowly. Too slowly. Everyone agrees what's needed, so let's just get it happening. Fingers crossed Tuesday sets some actions in place.

It's absolutely ridiculous that PEXA is allowed to have such a monopoly on the settlement market. Our clients have to pay top dollar to PEXA or they won't move into their new home. If there was only 1 supermarket in Australia, the ACCC & Govt would be blowing up a treat. But when it comes to "hidden taxes in the form of fees", they turn a blind eye.
