Wisdom, youth, and maybe a bit of tech... The formula for future proof success in the Yachting industry Yachting depends on honouring it's past, and in an industry often accused of “clinging to the old ways,” it’s easy to see experience as outdated or out of touch. But lets reframe that perspective. The expertise, networks, and knowledge that industry veterans bring to the table are irreplaceable foundations. Their legacy isn’t a hurdle, it’s a head start for us as the next generation who follow. "Surrounding yourself with experience is not a threat; it’s a blessing". I'm seeing this phrase alot on LinkedIn lately Sat in the boardroom with Darren Hunt of 7Ps Yacht Management & Jamie Brown of E-Touch Systems, and many others I have been fortunate discuss projects with, listening, learning and adapting to their ways of operation, it's clear to me the way the industry should move forward. It's clear, to succeed in this industry you need honesty, transparency, ready to adapt, and not be a Jack of all trades (excuse the pun!). Focus and dedicate yourself to one clear role and service, aim to achieve and be great at it, but also understand that the value of experience, knowledge and wisdom is priceless. ULTIMAR is a bread and butter business, with a clear, no conflict, high standard Owner Representation for yacht projects. I would not feel comfortable in my position without the knowledge & guidance received throughout a 20 year career at sea in the merchant navy, north sea and yachting. These leaders have spent decades perfecting the art of successful project management and businesses within the industry, without tech and automated services, just pure human interaction, and their insights can guide us as the next generation in ways that pure innovation alone might overlook. The yachting industry doesn’t need to “kill the dinosaurs”, as we are constantly hearing, we need to learn from them. By integrating their tried and true methods with new approaches, we create a balanced future. A future that respects the past whilst pushing boundaries and moving forward. Are we valuing experience enough? Or are we in too much of a hurry to rewrite the rules? Let's remember that true progress is often built on the shoulders of giants. The recent Explorer Yacht Summit hosted at Monaco Yacht Club by BOAT International Media, gave an interesting overview about the explorer yacht market and topics around ocean exploration. Yacht owner Erik Vonk shared the 17-year refit evolution of a 1989 fishing trawler, Scintilla Maris, into a robust expedition yacht - echoing other comments on the day about the seaworthiness and seakeeping quality of ex-military or government vessels, trawlers or offshore support boats. Converting an existing vessel and retaining the hull and superstructure generally saves significant costs and resources for raw materials and manufacturing, however there are other considerations when looking at a rebuild and entire life cycle of a conversion yacht such as electrical systems, steelwork and reclassification. Overall, an insightful event looking into the pros and cons of conversion yachts and considerations to balance design characteristics and amenities with a vessel’s intended use. ➡️ More details here: https://lnkd.in/dY_BEtKi 📧 Contact our SEA Yacht Group team to discuss yacht ownership: Email [email protected] www.seayachtgroup.com Source : BOAT International #Superyachts #Yachts #Shipyards #SEAYachtGroup

Architecturaly styled yachts can offer a better guest experience. Why should a yacht look like a yacht? M/Y THIS IS IT is a catamaran of 708 Gross Tonnes (GT). She offers almost double the volume from the average yacht of her length*. Yachts that are going to operate in fair weather and sheltered waters don’t need to be ice classed, have huge bows, carry massive volumes of fuel and water and be capable sailing through a hurricane. Designing a yacht to fits its purpose can open doors and opportunities to think outside the box. Most flag yacht codes and class societies offer different standards for short range vessels which allow for much greater design flexibility. This has the added benefit of not dragging around features or capacities that will never be used, creating lighter more efficient yachts burning less fuel as they go. *BOAT International Media BOATPro lists the global fleet between 43-44m at an average GT of 372. 🔽 Check out the new images of THIS IS IT at SuperYacht Times here 🔽 https://lnkd.in/eCq24aRv #superyacht #superyachts #yachting #Yacht #Yachts #marineindustry #maritime #BritishSuperyacht 🧠 Thoughts & comments will remain my own and not be 🤖 generated. _________________________________________________________________________________ ✒ I normally post about the Superyacht Industry Business & Strategy, Yacht Regulatory & Operations around the globe. Many yacht owners have stopped and stared through this window... Recently from the boardroom at the Sanlorenzo Yacht shipyard in La Spezia overlooking the shipyard, I imagined the thoughts racing through the mind of a project owner just before signing a contract agreement. This moment is a defining one filled with anticipation, ambition, and no small amount of trepidation. During a conversation recently, it was stated : "A yacht is an alternative, operating, depreciating and emotional asset" How true is that statement... It’s not purchased with the expectation of financial gain but rather for the lifestyle, experience, and status it provides. It is a symbol of success, freedom, and personal identity. The emotional connection often outweighs the financial and operational considerations, making the investment deeply personal and gratifying. During the development phase, pre contract signing the combination of countless decisions and deliberations, where the weight of every choice is felt. This isn't just a construction contract, it's the start of a journey that will take years to complete, with every detail scrutinised and perfected, but most importantly, the process should be fun and enjoyable! At ULTIMAR, we understand that the path to a successful superyacht project begins long before the ink dries on the contract. We stand by the owner from the very start, providing clarity, expertise, and reassurance, and maintain the enjoyment factor throughout. Our role is to support, guide, advocate and ensure that every element of the project is meticulously planned, potential risks are identified, and that the owner's vision is translated into reality with precision and care. Whether it’s navigating complex technical specifications, managing budgets, or aligning the project with long-term goals, ULTIMAR is here to protect the owner’s interests and ensure that when they do sign, they do so with confidence and clarity. Because in the world of superyacht construction, it’s not just about starting right, it’s about knowing that every step forward is backed by insight, experience, and dedicated support. Future proof innovations for yachts are happening now! I look forward to seeing and discussing these innovations during METSTRADE & The Superyacht Forum next week I will also be at Feadship later this week for the Italian Yacht Masters Association MASTERDAM event, where industry leaders from the world of design, new build, project management, yacht management and brokerage, are coming together for this exclusive event at Feadship to discuss the advancements shaping the yachting industry. Innovations like Feadship hydrogen powered Project 821 are setting new benchmarks for innovation & sustainability. The RWD designed Project 821 is paving the way for “net zero” yachts by 2030, setting standards in hydrogen propulsion and safety at the class, flag, and IMO (International Maritime Organization) levels. Feadship didn’t just push technological boundaries, it established critical regulations for hydrogen storage and fuel cell systems that benefit the entire industry. With “net zero” yachts on the horizon, future proofing is no longer optional. As Feadship have proven, the industry doesnt need to wait for regulation, the regulation can adapt around the industry. At ULTIMAR as Owner Representatives, we guide yacht owners through an ever evolving industry, ensuring they make informed decisions that align with long term innovations and future proofing in mind, and make forward thinking decisions that can potentially enhance their yachts value and sustainability. As we look to the future, independent representation becomes essential for owners navigating these complex advancements, protecting both their vision and investment. Im honoured to be included in the Feadship Masterdam 2024 event, prior to The Superyacht Forum and METSTRADE, gaining further insights and developing thoughts from industry professionals trying to shape a more sustainable yachting future. What do you see defining yachting in the next few years? Are you dreaming of owning the perfect superyacht but unsure whether to go for a series build or a full custom one? Let us share some insights. With years of experience in the industry, we understand what yacht owners expect and what shipyards deliver. Here's our breakdown for yachts over 24 meters in length: Advantages of Series Builds: Proven Performance: Built on tried-and-tested designs. Track Record: Though reliable, many builders outsource to different shipyards, which can result in varying build quality for the same yacht model. Fixed Prices: Pricing is generally fixed, with limited room for negotiation. Limited Customization: You can personalize, but it's expensive and restricted. Advantages of Full Custom Builds with an Owner's Representative: Step-by-Step Guide: Work with us to prepare a basic design and technical specs. We send this to several shipyards, gather offers, and negotiate the best deal for you. Cost-Effective: A custom build can often be priced lower than a series build. Total Control: You get exactly what you want without paying extra for every little add-on (like an €8,000 BBQ!). Highest North European Quality: Our highly experienced owner's team will oversee the entire build process to guarantee the highest craftsmanship and standards. Hassle-Free Process: Your representative will handle every detail on your behalf, ensuring a smooth and stress-free experience from start to finish. Unique and Higher Value: Custom yachts stand out, increasing your charter rate and resale value. Investors find it appealing because the resale price in the last months before delivery is often higher than the initial investment. For private owners, the beauty is simple: enjoy your yacht for years and resell it for at least what you paid, if not more! If you're ready to take the next step, reach out to us for expert guidance. How they build MegaYacht: Producing Deluxe superyacht by Heesen Yachts ship building company. Building luxurious Yachts by Dutch Heesen Shipyard from start to finish. Inside SuperYacht factory. Manufacturing process step by step - Ultra G, Galactica Star, Cosmos, OSS. 🌊What qualifies as a megayacht? Yachts that are at least 200 feet or 60 meters fall under the mega yacht category. These yachts, which are also the world's largest yachts, may have special licenses that allow them to accommodate more than 12 guests at the same time. 🌊What is the largest Heesen? At 70 metres overall, Galactica Super Nova is the largest Heesen built to date. 🌊Who owns Heesen yachts? The ownership of Heesen has been transferred to an independent Dutch Foundation… As a result of the sanctioning of one of Heesen's UBOs, the Russian-Azerbaijani businessman Vagit Alekperov, the shipyard has announced that it is now 100 per cent Dutch, as it used to be. 🌊What is the difference between a superyacht and a megayacht? Some brokers and builders still adhere to the old definition, so they may refer to a vessel that is 85 feet long as a superyacht. Megayacht – Generally any vessel over 200 feet long. Until about a decade ago these were considered the largest private yachts in the world.
