To navigate the uncertainty of transformation, use time tested frameworks. Transformation isn't new. There has always been personal and systemic transformation. While our current situation might be new, doing or encountering something new isn't new. I became fascinated with transformational models as a tween. After getting into yoga and meditation in order to deal with being a "Zappelphilipp" (fidgety philip), I started exploring psychology, philosophy, wisdom traditions and esoterics from around the world. I ventured into alchemy and even the occult and magick, only to find that every culture I encountered had models and frameworks for transformation. Frameworks aren't methods. Methods provide step by step instructions for reaching a defined goal. Frameworks provide context and models for sense-making and an approach. You could say methods are about answers, while frameworks are about good questions. When you look beyond the localized and contextualized language and stories, most of these frameworks are very similar. Not completely surprising considering we share cognitive structures, experiential maps, transformational thresholds in our lifetimes and personal development, and basic elements like fire, water, air, and earth across the globe (sure, some have wood and metal, but this isn't a precise science, and definitely not the "Truth"). Whether personal or systemic transformation, drawing from these ancient yet persistent models allows leaders to navigate uncertainty and liminal spaces. My clients didn't always know this, but over the years, I have build enterprise transformation programs based on the zodiac or the tree of life, innovation processes based on chakras, and most of the frameworks we use at LUMAN were built on frameworks from perennial wisdom traditions - because they work. I have a whole spreadsheet of models of 7s and 8s (DM me if you are interested, I am happy to share and geek out about it). Using these perennial frameworks, I have been able to support my clients with successful strategies even amidst massive uncertainties. Right now, we are amidst massive transformations: from our planet's climate to the global order and our supply chains, from how we organize ourselves with the new possibilities AI provides, to how we relate to each other and ourselves. Wouldn't it make sense to use time tested frameworks to navigate these uncertain times? They provide a solid foundation for understanding complex situations and developing effective strategies.
Always both wise and practical. Thanks, Philip.
