Last year, an astute airline parts inspector noticed something didn’t look right with the paperwork for a part his airline had ordered. That set the stage for discovering that an unscrupulous company in England had sold thousands of unauthorized parts for GE engines. Several airlines grounded the associated airplanes until those parts could be identified and removed from service. What followed was GE Aerospace forming the Aviation Supply Chain Integrity Coalition. Today the Coalition released its report with 13 recommendations to raise the bar and increase integrity of the aviation propulsion supply chain. The recommendations, which are performance based and technology agnostic, call for voluntary actions that can be taken over the next few years. Taken together, once these recommendations are implemented, we can further increase the integrity of aviation supply chains. Thanks for members of the Coalition for taking this seriously and unanimously developing solid recommendations.

A much-needed step to increase flight safety through integrity in the supply of airplane parts and spares.

The global #aviationindustry can no longer hide the fact that their far-from-perfect #supplychains actually endanger and even hinder large OEMs, primarily Airbus and Boeing, from fulfilling their orders. Just check out the latest news from the past few days... At the same time, before we see OEMs as victims of dysfunctional supply chains and make Tier1, 2 and 3 suppliers solely responsible for late deliveries, let's ask who are responsible for ensuring supply chains with sufficient capacity and adequate quality.   Yes, these are the OEMs themselves, whose order book is secured for many years in advance, and thus actually represents a backlog of thousands of aircraft.   Furthermore, these are the OEMs that have been referring to the challenges generated by supply chains for years, but instead of meaningful solutions and changes, they only repeat platitudes such as sustainability or cooperation. At how many conferences have we heard these meaningless and empty phrases, while apparently more is needed in order to experience meaningful progress in the operation of supply chains. It is time to act, to take meaningful steps, because the present and future of aviation is in the hands of the OEMs.  Or ask, if you need help 😉 #dans #aviation #aerospace

What are the revised full-year delivery expectations from Boeing and Airbus? In the latest IBA Insider newsletter, IBA's Chief Economist, Dr. Stuart Hatcher Ph.D. provided a revised prediction of (the fourth for this year) year-end delivery numbers using aviation data from IBA Insight. 📉 This year, Boeing has delivered only about 62% of the 737s compared to the same period in 2023. With production dropping from 32.6 units/month last year to just over 20 in 2024, Boeing is projected to produce around 330 units—30% lower than expected. Coupled with a similar decline in 787 deliveries, Boeing's total commercial aircraft output is likely to be down 15% by year-end. ✈️ In contrast, Airbus shows a slightly better performance, with the A220, A320neo, and A350 deliveries ahead of last year’s figures. Despite this, overall growth in the commercial aircraft industry remains stalled, with combined output from both Boeing and Airbus expected to match last year's levels. McKinsey & Company partnered with Aviation Week Network to survey 175 leaders from over 80 firms, including airframe and engine OEMs, suppliers, and operators, to understand how they will tackle the challenges of meeting future commercial aircraft demand. Key findings include: -Record-high backlogs for aircraft orders -Industry expects demand for new aircraft to grow at ~8% CAGR -Most predict the arrival of next-gen single-aisle (NGSA) aircraft by 2035 -Disconnect between optimism for new aircraft development and pessimism about production ramp-up. -65% indicate inadequate production systems to meet airframer ramp-up targets The article concludes that the aviation industry is at a crossroads, needing to balance both current production expansion with preparations for next-generation aircraft development. Success will depend on effectively managing both current and future demands, and will require increased transparency between airframers and suppliers.
