The Paradox of Prophecy: When Divine Interpretation Clashes with Christian Values In the wake of a contentious election, a segment of American Christianity has embraced the narrative of divine intervention, hailing the results as a fulfillment of prophecy. However, this interpretation raises profound questions about the nature of faith, morality, and the true essence of Christian teachings. If one chose to examine the implications of this perspective, one must consider the potential consequences of policies that seem to contradict the very principles of compassion and love that form the foundation of Christian doctrine. For all the talk about whether or not the U.S. is a Christian nation, I've never heard this aspect discussed. The Europeans in the colonial era who landed on the shores of what is now the United States were often fleeing religious persecution. Many of the founding fathers may have considered themselves Christian, but what each meant by that was undoubtedly very different. Whose version of Christianity will prevail if religion is allowed to continue encroaching into our public spaces? And what do you do about the very real faith of those who believe differently, even those who consider themselves Christian? Episode 11 expands on these thoughts. #spirituality #separationofchurchandstate #spiritualjourney #spiritualgrowth #spiritualgeography #jonimiller

The Founding Myth: Why Christian Nationalism Is Un-American - https://lnkd.in/gW-Rb-FA Do “In God We Trust,” the Declaration of Independence, and other historical “evidence” prove that America was founded on Judeo-Christian principles? Are the Ten Commandments the basis for American law? A constitutional attorney dives into the debate about religion’s role in America’s founding. In today’s contentious political climate, understanding religion’s role in American government is more important than ever. Christian nationalists assert that our nation was founded on Judeo-Christian principles, and advocate an agenda based on this popular historical claim. But is this belief true? The Founding Myth answers the question once and for all. Andrew L. Seidel, a constitutional attorney at the Freedom from Religion Foundation, builds his case point by point, comparing the Ten Commandments to the Constitution and contrasting biblical doctrine with America’s founding philosophy, showing that the Bible contradicts the Declaration of Independence’s central tenets. Thoroughly researched, this persuasively argued and fascinating book proves that America was not built on the Bible and that Christian nationalism is, in fact, un-American. #FoundingMyth #UnAmerican #Constitution #Religion #publiclife #civics #USHistory #TenCommandments #FreedomofReglion #ReligiousLiberty #ChristianNationalism

Why did the Roman Empire persecute Christianity? Was it just a straightforward case of religious bigotry? And if not that (the Empire was, after all, at least somewhat tolerant in matters of religion), what was it about Christianity that caused the authorities to view it as a dangerous threat? How frequent were the bouts of persecution — and how vicious were they? And why, considering that the process was spun out over two and a half centuries, was it not finally successful? In this episode, we get to grips with the whys and wherefores!
