The impact that Rob McElhenney & Ryan Reynolds (and Channing, this weekend... 🤣 ) have on Wrexham - both, the club and the town/ city - is profound. Let's face it, looking at the horror stories of British Football club owners over the years, Wrexham AFC won the lottery. (God bless the German 50+1 rule!) And the associated documentary - driven by Patrick Mc Garvey @ Boardwalk Pictures & his team - and the exposure, that it creates, drives visitor numbers from far & wide too. No doubt about that. However, make no mistake... This merely creates a certain lift & buzz (which will plateau eventually). The visitor & hospitality economy is still facing severe pressures. Collectively, we cannot rest on these laurels... And neither can the local authority. The local business community needs to work hand in hand to deliver campaigns to improve things further and build on - with the help of Wrexham County Borough Council and other partners. The platform is there. The story is there. The emotional hook is there. Now let's cooperate and build on it. A rising tide lifts all boats. (Photo taken in front Wrexham's beautiful St Giles' Church, Wrexham. Sorry for these two random blokes photobombing it! (Taken from Ryan's Insta.)) This is Wrexham
This week the Liverpool Football Club team visited Alder Hey Children's NHS Foundation Trust and a young lad who is a huge Wrexham fan was visited by the team to wish him well and give him gifts. It would be amazing if Wrexham AFC visited the lad. https://lnkd.in/ewZXYP3t
Best thing to happen to Wrexham in a good while. The ownership of the club is one thing but the way they have truly bought into the community (including a share in Wrexham Lager) is the big ticket item. Some may say they have made money, great if they have. The symbiotic relationship of doing good and earning a reward should never be doubted, it can make the world a better place.
Looking forward to seeing its effects on Thursday with Paul Mccowan
Unbelievable times for my home town/city and my football club. The platform has been provided and it’s now for all local stakeholders to step up and add to the wave
Don’t forget the management team Phil and Steve 👏👏👏
Shall we recreate this picture Peter ? 😂
I saw them driving past Hotel Wrexham on their way into town! 😊
My channing 😫😫
I walked past a cafe in Wrexham on Saturday, and there was a crowd outside a cafe. (Unusal to have so many in that part of Wrexham in the daytime😆). I was thinking, what going on?? Of course Ryan Reynolds was in the coffee shop. People banging, waving, taking pics, pushing to get to the window from outside. People were so excited 😅😅 I had to walk through to get past. I truly wouldn’t want to be that famous if it meant I’d have people intrude on my life like that….. As much as people like this make me cringe, the difference in the town on football days has really made a difference for business, atmosphere and image for the town.. I remember when the old KOP stand was in pieces, so run down, and even when tickets were a fiver, the stadium wasn’t filled at all! The only time it was super crowded was when Chester came down to play😂 now look at the difference and how it has improved the stadium, the atmosphere and how it has brought life back into Wrexham sport. 💪🏼 Well done to them for taking a risk on Wrexham. I coach kids football, and most if not all of my kids love and support Wrexham football, with aspirations to play there one day👏🏼🙌🏼
