Peter Schiefer’s Post

I am convinced: Electric cars are the new normal.  With the tailwind from affordable e-cars, electromobility continues to gain ground on the road. We will see an increased variety of hybrid and pure electric powertrain architectures to match customer needs and desires. Infineon is driving the decarbonization and digitalization of vehicles and supporting the transition to all types of hybrid and pure electric vehicles.  At the electronicaFair Automotive Conference 2024 in Munich, I had the pleasure of giving a keynote speech on the contribution Infineon is making to this and why battery-electric vehicles require three high-voltage technologies based on silicon, silicon carbide, and gallium nitride for optimal efficiency and cost. Here my key statements at a glance: 1. By 2030, the share of vehicles with a high-voltage powertrain will exceed 50%  2. Powertrain architectures will be optimized for different market segments and application requirements (like commuting, long-distance driving, fast charging) 3. Given the increasing diversification of powertrains, semiconductor solutions based on the three high-voltage technologies silicon, silicon carbide, and gallium nitride are all required due to their distinctive characteristics  4. Silicon remains important and, integrated in Fusion power modules, will even increase in volume; the trend towards higher voltages fuels the growth of silicon carbide; gallium nitride enters the automotive market starting in 2027 onwards via power conversion applications like onboard charger and DC-DC conversion. 5. Best-fit semiconductor products (such as the ones of Infineon) based on comprehensive system understanding and application know-how bring customer value. We make cars clean, safe, and smart. #Infineon #decarbonization #digitalization #mobility #automotive

Peter 100% agree. We should be careful to not interpret short term market disruptions as long term market signals.
