Forklift operator safety training should typically be conducted: 1. **Initially (before operating):** All forklift operators must receive formal safety training before they are allowed to operate a forklift. 2. **At least once every three years:** OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) requires a refresher training and evaluation for forklift operators every three years to ensure continued competence. 3. **Immediately after certain events:** Refresher training should also be provided when: - The operator is involved in an accident or near-miss. - The operator is observed operating the forklift in an unsafe manner. - New or different equipment is introduced. - Workplace conditions change that could affect forklift operation. 4. **As needed (based on performance):** If there are concerns about an operator's performance or if changes in regulations or safety standards occur, additional training should be conducted. It's good practice to also regularly review and update safety procedures to address any workplace-specific risks. #ForkliftSafety #workplacesafety #safeworkingenvironment #EverythingSafety #Safetyfirst

Have you had a chance to check out David Hoover's recent feature in Modern Materials Handling Magazine? “This means that forklift training is not a one-size or type fits all, unlike other safety training such as fire extinguisher training. Materials handling equipment such as sit-down, stand-up reach, orderpicker, pallet jack and telehandler all come with their own safety precautions and operator training.” - David, President Forklift Training Systems Check out the full article - https://ow.ly/WcK750T7tEA #forklifttraining #warehousesafety #workforcedevelopment #supplychain #modernmaterialhandling #safetyfirst

🛑Lift-truck training What should training include? If you have Lift Trucks under your area of control as a duty holder, this is for you! Before you engage a training provider ensure you ask how the following stages of training are covered within the course to ensure you meet your regulatory requirements. Operator training should always include three stages: ✅ Basic training: the basic skills and knowledge required to operate a lift truck safely and efficiently. ✅ Specific job training: knowledge and understanding of the operating principles and controls of the lift truck to be used and how it will be used in their workplace. ✅ Familiarisation training: applying what has been learnt, under normal working conditions, on the job. Basic and specific job training, which can be combined, should take place off the job (ie away from production and other pressures). ❓If any of the stages following basic training are not completed, how will these be addressed and documented? Familiarisation training needs to be done on the job, under close supervision. See the L117 ACOP for more detail on what each stage involves (Source HSE website) Should you require guidance or assistance with the above or have a training requirement, please let us know. YOU MAY HAVE BEEN TRAINED TO OPERATE A FORKLIFT BUT... Do you have relevant authorisations in place to be able to operate the forklift truck at work? TRAINING IS THE START: You need specific and/or familiarisation training to be completed, but you also need permission from the site controller which is where your AUTHORISATION comes in. It lets you know what and where you can operate within that company. . Are you unsure if you have authorisation? Ask your site controller, warehouse or line manager

Forklift Safety Forklift safety includes training operators, maintaining equipment, and following safe driving practices. Operators must inspect forklifts for defects, maintain stability by balancing loads, and avoid overloading. Adhering to speed limits, ensuring clear visibility, and using seatbelts reduces risks. Clear work areas of hazards to prevent collisions or tipping.
