Jen Easterly, director of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), believes that despite #cyberattacks and disruptions to the economy, the war against malicious activity is not lost. She emphasizes the need to elevate organizations' ability to repel attacks and hold vendors responsible. The U.S. government has strengthened connections with businesses and international partners, and CEOs and boards are treating cyber risk as a core business function. CISA's #securebydesign initiative, which aims to shift #security responsibility from customers to vendors, holds great promise. Easterly believes that building secure software from the outset is crucial for sustainable cybersecurity. Despite major attacks in 2024, Easterly remains hopeful and highlights the importance of addressing flawed software created by technology vendors. My take: We don't have a cybersecurity problem, we have a software quality problem. Many of the principles applied by the US government also apply in Europe. And while increased regulations are not without effect, we need to radically rethink how we secure our digital world.
