Gemba...the "actual place". Continuous improvement, RCCA, addressing safety near-misses...all of these things have the best outcome when you step out of the conference room and onto the shop floor where the real value-add takes place. On several of my recent trips to TRIUMPH Interiors in Mexicali, I've tried to be more intentional about spending time on Gemba walks, taking leadership beyond the conference room, and this particular time to drill down on the 5-why's on a safety observation. Making time to be on the floor and also holding "town hall" style meetings with a broader team is a responsibility and a privilege for us as leaders.
